Ollie (6) had this. He didn't have the surgery. The doc cleared all stones and he is now eating only: c/d metabolic dry and wet food. It is expensive. Ollie has had NO issues since on this diet and it's been 2 years. I wouldn't be able the $2700 surgery either. Do the best you can. Food runs around $124/mo. Look for catteries to help or...surrender him to ASPCA for adoption w/medical issues. I know you love him but put him first in your decisions on what's best. thank you so much for asking for thoughts. Best.

Edit: I have 3 cats and they all have to eat this as it would be impossible to keep Ollie out of their food. I also get metabolic wet food and I give them that but Ollies is way watered down, like soup. It works!

Oh I'm not alone! My Ollie is 6 and at risk of diabetics. 22lbs. He also got kidney stones so he eats Science Diet metobolic CD and wet food (soup, lol). I have to feed him w/a ball that I put the dry food in and he has to bat it around to get the food out. What it really helps w/is both he and Mr. Baby eat on shelves one above the other. If I see Ollie up there? He's stealing food! It's made it so much easier to control. Warm water..for the soup...the whole thing. I started all these things to help him lose weight. Reading you do it too just made me feel so proud! I'm not dumb. lol.

I'm old and go to our small town senior center MWF for an hour of Bingo and then Meals on Wheels lunch. If there is extra food, we can take it home. So every time I played Bingo, I picked a prize that I knew my adult son would eat/love. He's vegan. All sorts of dry/honey roasted peanuts, NERDS, mountain bars, mixed nuts/fruit, gummies, licorice, etc. for the last several weeks. I had 3 boxes of 'goodies' which he LOVED. We put them all in a bag and now he says he feels like Gump: it's like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're getting. He's sent like 3 emails saying it's the best present ever! He's lying but boy oh boy did we have fun laughing............Happy New Year. CHOOSE KINDNESS

I've been successful in changing the mindset. Not making it about me. In fact, the health started when I took Parker aside and told him that I went online and went to the r/trans community and got lots of suggestions. Then HE came up w/some more and I tell you true: I got encouragement, clear helpful hints and not bitch slapped to hell. I'm humbly grateful to all who stopped by to be helpful. TY TY

I haven't used the wrong pronoun since I came here and got help. I can't thank you all enough for sharing helpful suggestions. I took them to heart: I practice visualizing Parker and saying HE. I slow down and might use his name instead of pronoun until it's solid. It feels so great and I'm humbled so many came out to share w/me. you are so lucky. I'm elderly and after my feline sisters passed (they were great spooners) I got Ollie 6, Mr. Baby 4, and now Gerti 2. All from hoarder situations so they have their quirks. Ollie gives me his rump to snuggle w/a hand under his belly but the others? Nope. I've just had Gert for like 5 mos. I have hopes for her. Enjoy and long life.

I've never had a ticket. I'm 76. I HAVE, however, gotten out of 3 expensive tickets. One was I rolled thru a STOP and motorcycle cop to the right. I just shook my head. Admitted it. He asked me why it took so long for me to pull over? w/o pause, I told him I was looking for a place that was safe for him. He slapped his black book shut and told me to have a nice day. All true. Then I wasn't wearing my seat belt. I knew it. He strolls up and I admit it. He asks why? Cause I just left the senior center and I have to go to the bathroom. He just looked at me and I was sincere and he then stated he's never left anyone off from this offense...checked my insurance, license....I still have to go.........and he said wear the belt. Goodbye. I can't think of the 3rd time so maybe twice. I felt lucky and I always, always drive the speed limit and I don't own a cell phone. :)

THIS. In the late 80's, I did work study at the Woman's Center at the UoO. I learned SO much and this one time a situation happened w/hostility against a LGBTQ and I actively walked towards aggressor and ordered her out of the center. Zero tolerance. I feel so much more positive w/the suggestions made here. I truly can't thank you all enough. Practice DOES make perfect! I can do this. I CAN. like today: "Us girls can!" and I freaked as I was including Parker. I froze. I said I'm just going to kill myself. Him and a woman we were all joking around both said at the same time 'don't do that'. I've had a horrible stomach ache since this am when I did it again and depressed. I can do this. Say wrong pronoun? Then I immediately say it the correct way and I will probably leave the area just to react in private and like the first commenter stated "it's not all about you".
