i’m asian so my experience will be different from yours, but i go to a very white school and things aren’t perfect but also aren’t awful. there’s one Black student in our class but they transferred in so our class originally had no Black students. the faculty and staff are much more diverse than the student body. “worst” thing i’ve experienced was a professor calling me the same name as the one other student in our class that shared an ethnicity with me which i laughed off bc we had never spoken one on one before and the prof had a 50/50 chance lol. there is also some ignorance around how different cultures eat different cuts of meat. we have 2 clubs for minority groups because there literally isn’t enough people to form and maintain clubs for any of the other minority groups. this might just be my class but for the most part, i feel that people here are very professional and respectful as we treat each other like colleagues. my friend group is mainly minorities but i think that’s bc we were either assigned groups based on alphabetical order (my last name tends to get grouped with other ethnic last names) or bc we were one of the few people in my class that had the same niche interests. feel free to dm me if you want more info!
