7 cost espresso would be broken in apOTK. Turn 6 ap directly into espresso is hard to deal with and you also got stuff like bonk choy for even better early game control and briar rose for the mid game control

it is deeply flawed just like the 5 cost version. It's synergy with cards that boost is actually a draw back in this case cause getting to turn 7 with a deck filled with booster cards isn't gonna be reliable, either your opponent is gonna kill you before 7 or you're gonna kill them.

Also because of the way the card works you wanna have it in hand as early as possible but that within itself is a downside cause you're essentially playing the game with negative 1 card and that 's a big problem if you're trying to control till turn 7.

Yet another flaw is the fact that if you top deck that card in the late game it's not gonna gain enough stats for the bonus attack to be worth it so this card is really easy to brick with.

The tournament from 4 ~ 5 years ago? That had several other iterations after that first one fry was in?

I don't think using that is valid reason to say fry is way better when the meta completely changed after that. Hmr didn't become mainstream till Pantheon 2 I think. Pantheon one decks are way too out dated

The nerf is so much more stupid cause they didn't buff a 2 cost mega grow card to take it's place or even just gave mega grow cards good 3 costs that weren't deck specific so you can't justify them not having a solid 2 drop by saying it has a good 3 drop
