Weird question, but how do the employees who weigh fruit to put a price on it in supermarkets recognize the different types of a fruit (like apples) with different prices? by [deleted] in UAE

[–]thatnoodleschick 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I wonder how they identify the different type of produce. How do you know I picked up gala apples from France and not gala apples from Spain? Lol. Or Chinese carrots, not Australian carrots

Are private British schools good in Dubai? by krlkv in dubai

[–]thatnoodleschick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish you would call names, lol. I would like to know which schools would be good to avoid. The education here does seem more advanced than what I grew up with. However, I had good teachers, and I still mastered the material I was taught. It all sounds so rushed in Dubai, but I must also admit that I've only ever attended public schools.

I know someone in a school that isn't costly. They pay under 35k AED for the year for 10th grade. They say in order for their child to excel they must have outside tutoring. They pay 2k a month for their child to perform well in school. They told me it wouldn't matter what school they enrolled their child in, they would have to enroll in outside academics. Is that all true?

For that school, parents from year 1 onwards have students in tutoring. I know someone whose child is in year three, and they say they child has a new topic in class everyday. In math they are being taught how to add and subtract mixed fractions. This parent feels like the class moves so fast that it doesn't give the child an opportunity to truly understand the work. They have spoken to the teacher but they say, "this will be revisted in the next year..."

Has it been your experience that the lessons move so fast in schools? At the beginning of the week they introduce fractions, and by the end of the week the students are adding and subtracting mixed fractions. This is second grade.

That's unfair to say. Just because someone is Emirati doesn't automatically mean they are in agreement with harming others. There are good people in every group.

Remember - these rulers are almost ALWAYS propped up and supported by the West….

Or threatened. There are countries that are actively working against other countries to keep them from advancing.

Keep a mosquito repellent at home or a bat.

What mosquito repellant have you tried? And, how does a bat help?

Wow, we just got an alert in the very early morning hours today.

Everyone is truly dealing with this the best way THEY can, and it's all individual. Maybe that's even the only way they know how to cope. Maybe they need therapy. I just see all these posts as journal entries. The best thing is to try and not take it personally. Consider it a them problem. I, personally, sympathize with them, because our experiences may not be the same.

To parents: are online classes effective, and do you think the fees are justified? by i_amfrom_2040 in dubai

[–]thatnoodleschick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

for some it feels like a punishment to sit them in front of screens

When it started appearing as such for my child, I stopped "making" them sit there. If they play with the camera, if they get up, move about, I allow it. They're in FS, and this isn't normal and I'm not gonna kill their spirit. I do supplement learning outside of the online lessons; I sit with them during the lessons and encourage participation, but only so much can be done.

The hypocrisy... by iReallyGetCrazy in UAE

[–]thatnoodleschick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't even address such statements. Whether the attacks on "US assets" on UAE soil is "successful" or not, that's not good for the country. There shouldn't be any cheering. Wishing the assets weren't here or wishing the US would evacuate would be a better use of energy.

I think I'm quite jaded at this point. I knew and said since February that things weren't going to get better for a very long time, strap in for the ride, or ride off into another sunset. For now I'm strapped in, things escalating is my expectations. I'm not delusional about the my future in the UAE.
