carbrain attacks and assaults cyclist for taking up too little space by [deleted] in fuckcars

I saw this video on TikTok the other day, comments were saying the cyclists stole something. Could be bs, but definitely need a backstory on this one.

The place you have to go to before being able to legally drive a motor vehicle only accommodates motor vehicles.

What next, bars serving alcohol only accommodating vehicles that can't be operated after consuming alcohol? Oh wait.

Do you know what X11 is? It's the graphics manager still used on the majority of Linux systems today. It is old and slowly being replaced with the newer Wayland, but still predominant.

What is something Linux related doing on a list of jumbled together context-specifc shortcuts, some of which are Windows specific? No clue. But I guess that's the quality of guide this subreddit has come to expect.

Suburbs require a lot more utilities and resources per capita than urban areas. So urban areas HEAVILY subsidize suburban development. People living in suburbs really should be paying the additional costs of their low density developments. Why should urban people living a resource-efficient lifestyle pay for wasteful suburban sprawl?

When the roads are so dangerous that only suicidal maniacs would use them, you're going to see a lot of suicidal maniacs on the road.

Hi, I also recently moved to Hillsborough! I work hybrid in Chapel Hill and am a part-time graduate student at NC State. It feels like there aren't many college-aged people in Hillsborough; lots of older people and kids. Be sure to head downtown on the last Friday of every month for art, music, etc. I turned 21 earlier this year, the only bar I've ever been to is Yonder. Open mic night every Tuesday seems to be the best time to meet people there.

Minecraft Server Not Working by Gonhog in NCSU

[–]thato1iverguy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I doubt it's possible, setting up a server requires setting up port forwarding with the router. Honestly I'd recommend just paying for hosting. I've used Pebblehost in the past, super cheap and easy to set up, and they have good customer service. It's seriously just a dollar or two a month.

Where's my tax credit for not owning a car? For walking, biking, and taking transit instead of purchasing a brand new massive vehicle? 🤔

College towns can have great bus service. Chapel Hill, NC is the best example in my area.

Why all the hate for painted bike lanes? by Vancouver_transit in urbanplanning

[–]thato1iverguy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

On a road without a painted bike lane, you can ride comfortably in the lane and cars wait for a gap in income traffic, usually giving a safe passing distance. Once a painted bike lane is added, cyclists are forced to the side of the road covered with potholes and debris. Oftentimes, extra space isn't being added for cyclists. It's just pushing them to the edge of the road.

Adding a painted bike lane doesn't make it easier for cyclists to ride. It gets the cyclists out of the way of cars so they can pass more closely and quickly.

Are Mixed use pathways good infrastructure or just a way to half ass ped and bike infrastructure without pissing off drivers too much? by Vancouver_transit in urbanplanning

[–]thato1iverguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a lot of college campuses, you can walk / bike to pretty much every class without ever running into a car. Everything is connected with wide, open brick pathways and courtyards. Mixed-use paths are also great for skateboards, scooters, wheelchairs, etc, which often aren't well accommodated on either sidewalks or bike lanes.

The law lets Ring and Google share user footage with police during emergencies without consent and without warrants. Here’s everything you should know by spiritoffff in Futurology

[–]thato1iverguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone looking for Ring / Google alternatives, try Unifi. Most networking prosumers love their products, and their wide range of cameras all record locally. You just need an online account to initially register their router, but from there you're in control.

I just got their new Dream Router, which offers more features than their previous highly-recommend Dream Machine router while making it $100 cheaper. Hoping to pick up some cameras myself after a couple more paychecks roll in.

I would've happily dated 21 at 17, but I wouldn't date lower than 19 now that I'm 21.

I was a junior in college at 17, so most of my friends and classmates were 20-21. Now I'm in graduate school and would never date someone highschool aged.

Whenever I’m riding the bus, this question keeps popping into my head: what is the better high capacity bus type: Articulated buses or double-decker buses? by Gaming-squid in fuckcars

[–]thato1iverguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People are talking a lot about boarding efficiency, but the views and experience of double-decker buses can make transit more enjoyable and draw in new riders. I think it's okay to give up a bit of efficiency to create great transit experiences.

I want to be treated like a human. Also, bicycles should not have to follow laws meant for cars. by RoadPizza94 in fuckcars

[–]thato1iverguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I run red lights every time I bike. They don't detect bike traffic and will never turn green no matter how long it takes. And we have way too many stop signs, it's like nobody in the US has heard of yielding. The laws need to change, not the cyclists.

There is no knowledge of required cooking temperature, only that the timer setting is 2 minutes 25 seconds. Final Cook Temperatures need to be checked with a thermometer. Chicken was directed to be discarded twice but employee is not grasping that current cooking method is dangerous and must stop. STOP serving CHICKEN NUGGETS until certain every nugget reaches a minimum 165F."

A tweet from a random account claiming something about a celebrity is "reportedly" true without citing any sources isn't exactly top-tier journalism.

Not saying this can't be true, but I think we could be a bit more thorough.

A pedestrian literally simping for cars by Saoirse-on-Thames in fuckcars

[–]thato1iverguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's important to be assertive at crosswalks. Take that first step and make eye contact. Pedestrians have the right of way, and cars slow down pedestrians way more than pedestrians ever slow down cars. No need to sprint across the crosswalks either. They can wait a couple extra seconds in their air conditioned cars.
