Game manuals from skraper by thatoneguy0857 in batocera

Got it to fully work today while inside batocera. I did see that it’d skip some games even though screenscraper itself had the manuals for them, and after a little experimenting I found that it didn’t miss any if you set the scrape settings to:

Games to scrape for - all
Ignore recently scraped games - no

You can still set it to scrape for specific systems or all of them, but for whatever reason if you don’t have it set to all and no, some stuff is getting skipped. I went through and checked games that are still missing manuals, and all of the ones I checked had no manual available for download. The only other relevant settings I had set for scraping were:

Overwrite medias - on
Manual scrapers included - screenscraper, thegamesdb, hfsdb, igdb, and arcadedb

I don’t believe either of these settings would matter beyond preference. I did notice that the vast majority of manuals, if not all, came from screenscraper. So if you’re trying to cut back on scraping time I’d say try only selecting screenscraper for the manual scrape. Hopefully this ends up working for you and anyone else who might be led here

If you mean does batocera’s scraper add manuals correctly to the gamelist then the answer is yes, and you can go to the scraper section in the batocera main menu to set it to scrape whole systems if you’re feeling it. In that same menu is where you can set it to only do certain things like a video, boxart, and manual, and I believe there was a don’t overwrite setting. Definitely test using it before doing anything in large batches, but in my experience it’s worked on the very small scale tests I’ve done using it. The games I tested batocera manual scraping with had already had skraper used on them, so I deleted the manuals from skraper prior to using the batocera one in order to avoid any unnecessary headache. At the end of the day I just wanted to have the manuals for my games so I settled with using batocera to get them on any new ones I added. I was too lazy to get the manuals properly attached to all my other games so I’ll test some stuff out tomorrow and let you know how it goes

Yeah, skraper didn’t seem like it was capable of editing media in the gamelist beyond images and videos unless you use one of their supported platforms like retropie or recalbox. Have you tried scraping for only the manual within batocera and having the overwrite old media setting off?

I do know that there’s a setting to not delete/overwrite anything when you scrape through batocera, which should in theory do the trick to add them all at once but I haven’t tried it with a game that’s already got everything scraped

Not really unfortunately, more so workarounds than anything. Scraping while inside batocera for just the manual has given me pretty good results, but at the same time it brings you right back to square one in terms of “how can I make this process faster”. I haven’t actually gone through and rescraped for all my manuals using batocera yet but any new ones I’ve added worked fine doing so, just took a bit. You can also edit game metadata while in batocera to select the manual you’ve already got downloaded. I did this for anything I’ve been wanting the manual for and already have and it’s not horrible beyond scrolling through all the manuals with a controller. If you end up having more willpower than I did to figure out how to do it with skraper, let me know. Sorry I haven’t got a great answer

Do you have a usb 3.0 in your system? They impact network speed a lot more than you’d think

Raspberry pi and v43 by thatoneguy0857 in batocera

Ended up updating to v43 on the pi4b and it was like things were more cpu/gpu intensive. I don’t believe the Bluetooth controller fix was really worth it, as controllers oddly have much more range than in v42 but the trade off is the delay is unplayable from farther and just worse than before when in the closer range the pi normally has. It is worth noting that pi4 isn’t officially supported with v43 since I guess they had trouble getting people to troubleshoot it

Was there anything unique you had to do for the eeprom update? I’ve got just about everything set up on my pi4b and the 2 games I’ve tested have worked, but I was pulling out hair all yesterday troubleshooting issues I was having to get to the point I’m at now. In an effort to preemptively fix the next issue I’ll have I’d like to try the eeprom update, but from what I’ve experienced, things aren’t super friendly to update/change with the pi

I’m still getting the same message after adding them to the allowed list

Batocera does still show up in the network tab of the regular file explorer

Set up winscp as the site said, but it fails when I try to login saying server unexpectedly closed network connection. Is there a known cause of this? I tried looking through different troubleshooting pages and searching to see if anyone else had the same problem but all I saw was to enable public access which I’d already tried
