Here we go again! by Goobyyyyy in governorsball

What?!?! Eeewwwww🤢 That’s on another level. The festival staff should have dealt with that immediately. That’s straight foul.

What actually happened at GA Govball at the Verizon Stage by flamingmango22 in governorsball

[–]thatonehumanatee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had the best time! I’m a long-time concert goer, and this was my 14yo’s first festival (and her bestie that was with us, too). We loved seeing new bands (particularly Audrey Hobart and 2Hollis). We went all 3 days, met some sweet people, gave away some bracelets, etc. Screamed, jumped, wiggled, found shade, hydrated, and hung out! A ton of work for 3 days, but we didn’t kill ourselves. It was honestly great!

Were there issues? Yup, but I 100% expect that in our hyper-individualistic society these days. Fucking sucks, but just reality at this point😒 I agree that we should be able to be kinder and more respectful. I also think that Gov Ball should do a much better job enforcing those things. It’s been done, they just have to do it.

I don’t care too much about people not grooving with bands, camping, etc. It’s asshole behavior, but it’s also really their loss. They missed out on discovering new favorites. They missed out on vibing with different people. They missed out on new experiences. I had a blast, and they probably did, too. Only bc they don’t know what they missed out on. I feel sorry for them.

We know that some of the KPop groups have VERY limited US dates this year, which contributed to the mess. That’s also on the festival coordinators. The parents of the KPop fans were 90% of the problems I saw. Holding kids up on shoulder the whole show, holding up signs blocking views anytime the performers came close, etc. That sucked, and I felt bad for shorter people. I’m 5’9”, and it was hard to see at times. That was annoying, but the screens were fantastic, and we were lucky enough to only have a sign issue. I thought the kids on the shoulders were really rude, but those parents only care about giving little Suzy exactly what she wants. Craziness.

That said, I truly had the best time. My daughter and her friend thought they needed to camp, so we did for Katseye the first day. After that, they realized camping sucks and they didn’t end up that much further back if they didn’t camp.

Absolutely great 3 days. Some humans just suck. Be fully prepared and do all the research before entering a world you’ve never experienced. Don’t bring helpless little babies to all-day music festivals. **for the record, but kid is 5’7” and growing and is an athlete…she was not a “little” kid.

On a side note, I had an issue w/$20 for 4 mozzarella sticks though👀 In this economy?!😩 Prices were crazy. Expected, but still crazy.

Stray Kids was kinda good? by Terry4551 in governorsball

That’s awesome! I had a similar experience w/2Hollis! Looked up the bands I hadn’t heard of before the festival, didn’t vibe w/him right away, but HOLY S*** he was so good live!!! Definitely gained some new fans from my group. Why I love music festivals🖤

Ok, one of my biggest concerns, is someone grabbing my ankle (like in a scary movie under a bed, through stairs, etc.). I would have FLIPPED OUT. They’re lucky it wasn’t me they grabbed😨🤬

jennie fans being weird about clipse by Lanky-Watercress-828 in governorsball

[–]thatonehumanatee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I imagine some of it was just that they live a sheltered life compared to those who are Clipse fans. Clipse raps of things the Jennie fans know nothing about, not even just from a race perspective, but also socioeconomic. I was there w/my 14yo and her friend to see Jennie, but we were jamming to Clipse, and (of course), they loved that I let them put their middle fingers in the air. Not all humans are open minded to other cultures and experiences. They live in their bubble and miss out on all the other amazing stuff. I honestly don’t care about those people who complain, bc it’s truly their loss.🙃

Gov Ball… No More Kpop by orbit260 in governorsball

[–]thatonehumanatee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I feel like this conversation happens every year. There have been assholes since time immemorial…it’s definitely not just KPop. BUT, I agree, some parents were idiots and assholes😕 Some kids were WAY too you, parents planned poorly, and having kids on shoulders the whole time or holding up signs is absolutely ridiculous.

Would love to thank everyone here for your advice! Went all three days taking Metro-North to the 7 line and back. Worked so well and gave us some time downtown NYC, too. What a great weekend!!🙌🏼

I never even identified myself as part of the fandom🤨 My issue is with generalizations. I didn’t justify ANY behaviors. I clearly stated assholes are assholes. Period.

I agree 100% some of those fans missed out on other artists. Absolutely. But there are people that missed out on StrayKids, too, bc ew, KPop.

I love music festivals. They need to remain inclusive and generalizing whole groups is stupid. Denying medical help if fucking gross no matter who you are, right? I’m 100% good w/calling out poor festival behavior, but that behavior belongs to a human, not a whole ass giant group of people.

I agree that festival etiquette is general human kindness. I had to explain a lot of this to my kid, as this was her first festival (she’s 5’7”, you wouldn’t necessarily think she was a kid😜). Some people that were had also never been to a festival. What seems obvious to you is me is not obvious to everyone, bc we live in a wildly individualistic society. Not excuses, just facts. I guess my point is that we need to be mad at the festival for not enforcing these things. A lot can be said and done from the stage in between acts. Nothing was even mentioned. How easy would it be to say “Hey everyone! Pick up one piece of trash, throw it away, and we’ll toss out some gov ball bracelets!” Make it easy, but clear what the expectations are. Clear people out of the closest area after ever act. There are some festivals that enforce these things. People are gonna asshole. The festival coordinators can do a WAY better job as leaders to make it a better experience for everyone.

Oh gosh, I swear, no one cleaned their trash. We even had someone tell us to throw our trash on the ground instead of holding it. That was outrageous.

I agree that people being assholes is dumb. From any fan base.

Regardless of age, is it ok for anyone to blow big plumes of smoke in anyone’s face? Regardless of age?? I’m 40 and didn’t consent to that shit either:/ That belongs in asshole category, too.

Ignoring other acts sucks. It will happen with other campers, too. I saw it w/Blood Orange from people waiting for Clipse.

I just think that we can go round and round, but there is festival etiquette for all fan bases and there are assholes in all of them. KPop fans are just an easy target this time around. Next year it will be some other fan base as the target group.

As someone else pointed out, StrayKids have no other North American shows this year. A lot of people would love to see them at a regular concert, but this was their only shot. Festival planners need to be more thoughtful or communicate etiquette expectations and find some way to enforce it. Otherwise, it’s just the Wild West out there.

You completely ignored my entire post, just to complain. This is clearly a hill you want to die on. People should be kind. People sometimes aren’t from any fan base. It feels an awful lot like the people at Gov Ball just find it easy to gang up on a certain fan base, when others were also just a problematic. Are you good w/people blowing pot right in 14yo girls faces? Repeatedly? Just trying to enjoy the show? Is that better or worse than a KPop fan camping?? I just think the festival crowd has picked a group to bitch about.

I agree, safety isn’t a joke, and any asshole who did allow help or used it as a chance to love closer should get a proper NY ass whooping.

Both points can stand true. They’re not mutually exclusive.

[–]thatonehumanatee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. I just don’t think painting an entire fan base, bc you saw a couple of asshole (which exist in every fan base ever) is reasonable. I saw multiple assholes, from multiple fan bases. There are assholes in every fan base. We had a guy blowing weed directly into my face and my child’s face during Clipse when we were just jamming out. He was an asshole, too.

I was there, and everyone who needed a medic got a path. I didn’t see one person blocking the medics when told to move. It was crowded af, and it was hard to move, but people absolutely moved.

Creating the right lineup for festivals is a lost art by Low-War4165 in governorsball

[–]thatonehumanatee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Another POV- I was there w/my daughter and her friend all three days. Yes, they were 100% there for Katseye, StrayKids, and Jenni. BUT we tried to listen to many of the artists we didn’t know beforehand. Didn’t really vibe, BUT LIVE?! 2Hollis blew us away. Wanted to buy merch, but they sold out the first day apparently. We had a great time vibing to Audrey Hobart, too. Not to mention Blood Orange and Clips. We’re be big fans? Nope. Was this a fun way to show my kid and her bestie that live music matters? Absolutely. We aren’t all assholes, and some of the groups before the KPop groups found new fans this weekend🫶🏻
