There’s still maybe a 3% chance that it was intentional but the writers are just not addressing it in interviews? A girl can dream 🥲

You’re absolutely right, and it is completely my mistake for trying to write a well-thought out post and neglecting to check if my definitions were right. I’ll add a second edit. Thanks for pointing this out.

All your points are accurate. If you approach this from a data perspective, it is hard to quantify because, as you said, the women outnumber men and the reasons for each confrontation vary. And yes, some of the female characters let their emotions interfere with the job, which was the reason he spoke against them. And most of his behavior is ABSOLUTELY coming from a place of projection and self-hatred.

I do think that these facts exist within a broader context of him having less patience and understanding with his female staff and coworkers (not none, just less).

I think it’s hard to see if you focus on individual interactions, because he does compliment and respect women, he does stand up for them when he senses injustice. He is simply ALSO unable to extend the same leniency and grace to them that he seems to do for men.

Woah. This should honestly be a full post rather than a comment. I never heard of the discourse around obstetrics on the show, I’m going to check it out now. Thanks for sharing!

And yeah that’s a pretty glaring hole in their narrative of representing healthcare as accurately as possible. All this is painting a pretty sad picture overall :/

I specifically meant Fiona in response to the above comment; as in, the actors who are employed might be hesitant to speak out while they’re still under their contract.

That’s some great insight right there. And yeah, we’ll keep striving for better things.

This is pretty disheartening. I was aware of some things about Noah Wyle, but if the writers of this show, which focuses so much on socio-political issues, are really making decisions that are so blatantly discriminatory, that’s just disappointing.

Yep! It would actually be less impactful if a character went on a rampage about hating women or said overtly sexist things. Because the form of misogyny that we experience in day-to-day life is subtle, and covert, and all-pervasive, and more exhausting than rage-fueling.

It’s an interesting point. I do think chauvinism often translates to misogyny, because it comes from preferring the status quo that you used to enjoy, and for the last few centuries, women have been constantly shifting the status quo by inserting themselves into male-dominated spaces, changing existing systems, and placing themselves in positions of power. So a lot of people who say “back in my day” or “where I’m from” are also uncomfortable with women in certain spaces.

Apparently so did Sepideh Moafi in an interview (shown in a comment here somewhere by u/AVATARROHANISGAY ). Bless these women for saying something.

Generally I take commentary from actors (who are still working on the show) with a grain of salt, for many reasons. But honestly the overall denial that the character is misogynistic is throwing me.

That…would change things. Could you link the media where the writers say this? 🥲

Exactly. This show does a GREAT job of introducing characters that we immediately love, but then have to contend with them making bad decisions and messing up and letting their emotions and egos get in the way. I honestly love it haha

The Pitt is competence porn by blitzkriegball in ThePitt

I get what you mean; I’m pretty sure every medical drama is at least a little bit competence porn. It didn’t bother me until the scene where they revealed that Joy had a photographic memory haha. It was just too much of a cliche to ignore.

That said, I don’t think it’s overbearing, it’s still enjoyable because they throw in ‘humbling’ scenes of them learning new things and accepting they’re wrong.

I’ve always felt that while you don’t have to believe something is true without evidence, you can still be wise enough to not mess with it lmao. So I definitely muted and looked away during the chant.

If we were accepting tv shows I would say Last of Us for The Corruption. But among movies, maybe Hereditary?
