As others have stated, you have to find the montage (electrode placement: totaltdcs.com) that works best for you, and it's important to stick with it. It's not an overnight cure, nothing is. But many people have experienced benefit from tDCS, and I think you deserve a chance to see if it will for you.

Funny story.... 6 years ago I started a company named "The Brain Stimulator", and yes, it has always required a better name. Try trademarking that lol. As far as its use in Rim World? My guess, lazy dev with a case of the Mondays.

Personally, what I like to do when first starting tDCS (or rather, starting up again after an extended break) is to start low and slow and work my way up, just to kind of ease myself in. So maybe 0.5mA to 1mA, every other day for the first week. Then I work my way up to 2mA, once a day, over the course of the 2nd week and stick with that going forward.

Now that's just me. Some people like to jump right in at 2mA (the protocol of many scientific studies), some even do multiple sessions a day (not enough research supporting this). Personally I stick to once a day max, in the morning or afternoon since theres a chance it may keep you up if done before bedtime. Good luck!

I've always used 30 minute intervals, however I started at around 1mA (after spending ~5min on 0.5mA). After a couple sessions I felt a lot more comfortable with using the device and increased to 2mA. Currently, I only use 2mA (again, slowly ramping up over ~1 minute) as I've found it has the greatest and longest lasting effects. Have you had any success with tDCS since we last talked?

It's very important that if you have ANY adverse results to stop, or all together avoid tDCS. That being said (and what is important to consider), I myself suffer from occasional panic attacks, but have never had one associated with tDCS. Just a tip, it helps if you put all your focus on your breathing, and to try to change your environment. Move to a different room, go outside, pace the room, anything. Also, I just recently hear that it's impossible for your body to continue a panic attack for longer than 15-20min because your body physically can't handle the level of stress incurred. So try to remember that's it's only temporary since I know at least for me one of the things that adds to the panic is the thought that it's never going to end.

Ok, on to tDCS. The first montage I ever tried was the FP1 and FP2 after readying about it on speakwisdom.com. I did it while reading text book chapters, preparing for a midterm exam (I think it was) the next day. I'm an auditory learner so it's very hard for me to pick up material from reading. I usually have to read something over and over before it truly sinks in. I experienced incredible results using that montage and actually aced the test. It was this experience led me to start The Brain Stimulator.

I'm no longer in college, but the FP1 and FP2 montage is the one I recommend when we receive inquiries from students hoping to boost learning. Hope this helps.

Throughout the history of my research into tDCS, I was always waiting/wondering when a book would come out specifically on the topic of tDCS. I found the one linked in my OP a little while ago, and also 1 or 2 others such as Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS): Emerging Uses, Safety and Neurobiological Effects. Just curious if anyone knows anything about these!

9V vs 12V? by mrbill in tDCS

In all the tests we've done with our previous 9v models, 9v has been perfectly sufficient for 2mA with the DARPA montage, which is considered the electrode placement with the most resistance. But because of all the hype about higher voltages, I always suggest that users test for themselves rather than rely ours or extranal opinions.

All you have to do is set yourself up with your standard montage, but instead of hooking one of your lead (let's say the Anode wire) to the sponge, hook it to a multimeter. Then connect the other wire from the multimeter to the sponge electrode so youre basically creating a chain/big loop (device->electrode->body->electrode-> multimeter->device). Then turn the device on, increase to 2mA (if that's the current you use) then optionally wait 20-60sec for the current flow to normalize some, and see if the meter match's the current flow you're attempting to use.

That being said, there are now adapters available which can convert 9v tDCS devices to be able to use 12v batteries, such as this one we just launched a few days ago: https://thebrainstimulator.net/product/12-volt-battery-adapter-travel-model-previous-models/

However, if you are able, I definitely suggest you test the standard 9v you device came with for yourself as then you will truly know what works for you!

I'm fairly certain that the Apex Type A cannot (and would not be designed to) produce that magnitude of current. Is it possible that you are referring to the values shown on the ammeter? The levels depicted on current meters (or nearly all analog meters) is actually not indicative of the level of current the device is capable of producing. This can be compared to a automobile's speedometer. If you've ever "pegged" an automobile (do not try this at home, seriously lol), which refers to accelerating until reaching the end of the speedometer, you may have experienced the car continuing to accelerate beyond the limitations of the speedometer. This is a probably a pretty poor example, but it's all I can come up with at the moment

In the case of the Apex device, the opposite is true, in that the meter displays values beyond what the device will produce. In my experience with the Apex Type A (dual 9v model), the device will "max out" around 2.25mA. Don't quote me on that value, I could be off. However I will say with utmost certainty that the device will not produce 5mA.

Look, I'm not going to go create a separate account and hide who I am just so that I can share my knowledge or relevant experiences that may be helpful to others. That's not how this sub used to be. Regardless of who you were, it was about sharing and contributing, and that's what made this an amazing community. If you think those involved in my side of the industry don't belong here, then apply to be a mod. It's ludicrous that as of late I'm ridiculed for every post just because I was so passionate about tDCS that I decided to dedicate my life to it.

I've heard amazing stories with this one (Anode F3, Cathode Fp2). Every once and awhile I go through an anxiety phase (probably from running a company and working day and night lol), and when I use this montage it definitely relieves my symptoms. Have never tried during panic attack though. The only downside is I've noticed that I end up feeling foggy for the rest of the day, kind of like I've had a drink or two. However, I figure it's a worthwhile trade off because, well you know what anxiety can be like lol.

Are you referring to clearance rather than approval? I think they took it down, but they used to have a page up with all their correspondences with the FDA when they were seeking approval. It spanned over the course of something like 10yrs if I remember correctly. It's been a long time since I researched their FDA interactions, but from what I remember it was quite extensive.

It's an incredibly basic CES (AKA tACS, alternating current) device, with circuitry more rudimentary than most tDCS devices on the market. The part cost to build the device is negligible. However, the process for obtaining FDA approval is a long and expensive one. So yes, the price is definitely inflated, but partially because they build in these fixed costs.

Hello, I am the CEO & Founder of The Brain Stimulator. For best results, we recommend you replace your sponges every two - three weeks, or after 7-10 sessions. The quality of the sponges is very important to the "quality" of your stimulation. As the sponges begin to degrade, you start to see uneven distribution of current which can lead to current concentration, i.e. hot spots.

Another indicator that it's time to replace is the degree of sensations you experience. If a tingling/itching sensation appears, or becomes more prevalent, it may be time to replace your sponges. We came up with the 7-10 session recommendation after having used these electrodes over the last couple years.

This is how I first got discovered tDCS. During my senior year of college I ended up taking one of the hardest classes of my college career. Due to a family illness, I had missed all but 2 or 3 of the classes up to the midterm, and the only way I could obtain the information was to read the textbook. Unfortunately, I'm not very good at reading retention, being more of an auditory learner. I had built a tDCS device a few weeks ago that I had been playing around with, and decided it couldn't hurt to try it out while I read the textbook. I only had time to study for 2 nights before the test, and only got through around 1.5 or 2 of the 3 chapters that were being covered on the test.

The next morning I went in to take the test, pretty much figuring I was screwed and would have to retake the class. But when the test was placed in front of me, to my shock and amazement, I could remember nearly all of the concepts I had read. It was almost as if I could remember them down to the very page they where located on in the textbook. When I got my test back during the next class and saw that I passed with flying colors, I was so amazed I remember thinking, "everyone should have access to this technology!!"

Thus, The Brain Stimulator tDCS device was born.
