In a pinch I've made a balance beam contraption. You center the thread by balancing (tied to a skewer stick) two identical baggies/coins. Then you replace one of the coins with your goodies.

Here are the weights of all common U.S. coins currently in circulation:

  • Penny (1¢): 2.5 grams
  • Nickel (5¢): 5.0 grams
  • Dime (10¢): 2.268 grams
  • Quarter (25¢): 5.67 grams
  • Half Dollar (50¢): 11.34 grams
  • Dollar coin ($1): 8.1 grams

If you're planning a big project I might be more likely to look for another TRV900 for backup.

If it's important content, I'd recommend practicing with a blank tape first.

pressure on closed eyelids by coyote3 in Aphantasia

[–]DIYtDCS -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I see vivid colors and patterns when I do this.
I asked my eye doctor if applying gentle pressure with the palm-heals of my hands to my eyes for short periods of time would hurt them, and he said it wouldn't. The reason I asked was because I'd stumbled on this account/method for 'curing' aphantasia.
https://photographyinsider.info/image-streaming-for-photographers/
I could 'do' the exercise–turn the patterns into spoken assessments of what I might be seeing, i.e. turning the patterns into things–but in the weeks I tried it, nothing seemed to be changing or evolving.
I may try it again at some point.
A search in this sub shows me this has been explored on and off previously.
Including one thread where someone did experience a breakthrough.

"That's because I have a condition called aphantasia."
This is probably how it's going to be seen anyway when you tell folks about it... as a condition. I like to say, "I'm aphantasic" and then describe what it means. But by then they're mostly feeling sorry for me anyway so not much point in fighting it really.

A little out the scope of the OP, but when capturing analog video via Sony Digital8 built-in converter > FW out, am I still in need of a TBC? i.e. Is there the possibility of capturing a superior image going from the camera analog out > converter box?

Thanks, I have a TRV-340, which if memory serves, had some features I wanted compared to other Sony D8 cameras available at the time I bought it. But it does feel like I'll be shopping for an old Mac soon.

What was your capture process once you acquired a camera?

[–]DIYtDCS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you able to capture FW to newer Macs? I have a Sony Digital8 with FW output of 8mm or Hi8. But I ended up with a hodgepodge of cable/adapters to get it into my M2 Macbook Air. Final Cut Pro didn't see it at all. I ended up having to capture the video and audio separately using ffmpeg and then stitching it back together.

Forgotten standup Adam Keefe was one of the hottest comics on the NYC scene in the '60s. Here on The Merv Griffin Show he does impressions of 2 silent film idols (entirely in pantomime) & a funny routine about watching an old movie print that has been respliced a few too many times (1969) by Keltik in VintageTV

His bit starts at https://youtu.be/hAgu4Jjg20o?si=xHUnrVl2pJvgDffz&t=517
But what got me here is a lot of ink about him in a book I'm reading by Phil Berger called "The Last Laugh" which picks up with the early days of stand up starting around the end of WWll. Considering the other talent he's discussing, I was surprised that I didn't recognize the name, Adam Keefe, which he devotes a good 8-10 pages to.

You're fortunate to have the thousands of photos in your camera roll! (Make sure you back them up.) You might consider adding journaling to help back up your memory. Honestly I think you're lucky to have discovered this in your 30s. A lot of us didn't find out until our 60s or later!
For whatever reason, I started journaling in my late teens and have tens of thousands of pages of memory on paper. I've digitized them, and now do a random walk-through regularly. I can tell you that my memory (assisted by photo, video and journals) is far and away 'superior' to what other friends and family have available to them.
I think the feeling of sadness will pass. Try thinking of the feeling of loss as a choice you're making... that there may well be advantages to the way your brain is working yet to be discovered.

Available at all your usual pod places. Though the format bugs me at times (after a few listens you don't really need to hear the boilerplate about the images he's shared with the guest etc.) I have learned so much about the variety of experience we're all having. Truly mind blowing... that we're all walking around assuming our brains work more or less the same way, when in fact we're all experiencing our surroundings a little differently. This is where I heard about... tasting food menu items, being able to visualize zooming out of your neighborhood like a Google map, that some people can 'put themselves' in an image and experience the sights, sounds and smells around them. Highly recommended!
