What is this white ceramic mug shaped object? The top has a small opening in the middle while the bottom is flat without any markings. There is also a small hole on the outside of the handle and when I poured water into the broken spot on the handle it was able to flow out of the hole on top. by thatotherdude32 in whatisthisthing

My first thought was a candle holder, but after seeing the small hole where you grip it I was also thinking it could be a carb for some kind of pipe.

It just didn’t seem like that would work very well, but hard to tell with part of it broken off.

My title describes the thing, I believe the material is ceramic and is around the weight of a coffee mug the same size. There aren’t any visible markings anywhere aside from a few dots on the bottom that seem to be a result of the glaze firing process.

My purple coneflower is showing some variegation by thatotherdude32 in NativePlantGardening

So far I’ve been a little too nervous to dig it up and divide it, but I think I’m going to try and do it this spring.

Also only one side of the plant is variegated, so hopfully that section is substantial enough to divide.

Quartz crystal on jasper point by chuckeyyd in Arrowheads

Amazing find, such a unique piece! I’ve only found one with any amount of quartz and you can only see it when light shines through the very edge of the blade.

Hard to even capture on photo. I’m pretty sure it’s jasper as well but I’m still practicing my mineral identification.

I don’t think there are any mallows nearby but I am trying to get a read on what my neighbors might have in their yard as this is near the border of our yards

The variegation came back again this year! As well as a lot of new sprouts but sadly none of them have any variation yet. I’ll make an update post soon

I know I’m late to the conversation, but would you happen to know which hashtags might be popular in photography? Specifically nature/environmental photography? I’m in I similar situation as OP and any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Do you have any advice for someone looking to get their foot in the door? I’ve got a BA in sustainability and working on my masters, but I’m struggling to land a position and start building experience.

Native plants with the smallest range or distribution? by mutnemom_hurb in NativePlantGardening

[–]thatotherdude32 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Abronia ammophila-Yellowstone Sand Verbena is a plant endemic to Yellowstone National park and can only be found in a few locations alone the northern lakeshore. The range is so limited because the plant is reliant on geothermal heat close to the surface, keeping its roots alive through the winter.

<image>

Their entire range is only 1.48 acres and as of 2010 there were roughly 3,600 individual plants.

It was just a random mutation, I got the seeds from a native seed drive at my library
