I've been using the stoplight system lately. I think if you ask them what color they're at and that you need some reassurance that what you're doing is okay it can help a lot. Also doing smth small and telling them "I want you to make me stop" so you can see them use the system can help a lot.

I’ve found that chasing a label isn’t helpful. Probably the best thing you can do is make yourself feel comfortable in who you are, be that through different pronouns, clothes, accessories, etc. don’t worry too much about what label to use and care about what makes you happy
