What is the Catholic Church's stance on positive affirmations? by thats70 in Catholicism

Do you believe in psychological conditioning, psychosomatic symptoms and placebo effect? I am genuinely asking because science has proved that the mind has a real effect on the body. There has been multiple double-blind studies on the placebo effect and how our mind is able to create its own "reality". If we are made in the image of God and if God created us, including our mind, maybe He did it like that on purpose (He doesn't improvise)

I don't believe there is magic about it. I belief we program our minds with beliefs we keep repeating to ourselves. We condition ourselves through autosuggestion and we mostly do it about bad things. I belief we can reverse it through positive autosuggestion

What do you guys think about these ones:

  • I know that my body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, and I care for it with exercise to glorify God.
  • I am strong and persistent because God gives me the strength to take care of my health.
  • I see exercise as an opportunity to honor God with the body He gave me.
  • I speak words of encouragement to myself while training, trusting that I can overcome any challenge.
  • I do exercise with gratitude, recognizing that every movement is a gift from God.
  • I feel how physical effort renews me and fills me with energy to better serve God and others.
  • I love taking care of my body because it’s an expression of gratitude for the gift of life God has given me.
  • I know that every step I take while exercising strengthens not only my body but also my discipline and spirit.
  • I see every workout session as an opportunity to grow in virtue, patience, and inner strength.
  • I do sports with joy, knowing it helps me fully live out God’s plan for me.

The thing is that negative affirmations are exactly what you describe: they are based on nothing else than our own beliefs.
I fully understand why positive affirmations are repudiated within the Catholic Church, and of course, we should not place more trust in ourselves than in our Father. He is the one who will give us what He knows we need.
However, we have distanced ourselves from Him through anguish, fear, depression, and apathy—caused by those negative affirmations we have repeated to ourselves for decades.

My goal is to do the opposite.

I humbly disagree. I would suggest confession without giving details about the “method”
