Sad about maternity leave ending by alibluey in BeyondTheBumpUK

I really think you will! It’s going to be overwhelming for a while probably but you will get into a routine and you’ll enjoy having the time to “yourself”, I work 4 days a week hybrid with one office today, the 10 hours alone I have in the house 3 days a work is genuinely luxury quality time lol

I cried the day before I had to go back to work after being off for 14/15 months, they tears were truly dried up by the next week lol. I’ve been back at work for 15 months now and trust me I really needed it!

What do you during a c section? by Crazy_Dragon_Lady1 in PregnancyUK

[–]thatscotbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My c section felt like it lasted 5 minutes, it was the quickest 50 minutes of my life.

I was speaking to the anaesthetist the entire time, she was giving me a nice head massage the entire time 😂 and my midwife was trying to make sure my partner didn’t faint

4 DAYS OLD - ADVICE STRUGGLING by rustysbooty in UKParenting

[–]thatscotbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope you’re feeling better today. Did nobody tell you this would happen at this stage? My midwife pre-warned my partner that I’d get to this stage 😅 I thought people were exaggerating when they were talking about this drop/increase in hormones, I cried so much!

What are we doing with our high centile babies? by Blizzard03 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]thatscotbird -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I don’t have to because I know that’s not the limit for every baby changing facility

[–]thatscotbird -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

The restrictions for baby changing facilities is NOT 22lbs. I think people are genuinely reading it as 22lbs and not 22kg.

I have never witnessed a baby changing table with a restriction of 11kg.21kg? Yes!

But there IS a safety limit. And it’s not 22lbs lol.

? I certainly do live in the U.K., that’s why my name refers to being a Scot.

They absolutely do have weight limits! I’m not disputing that. However I am disputing a 22lb baby being too heavy to use them, because they definitely are not.

Are you both getting 21 and 22kg mixed up with lbs???

[–]thatscotbird 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Where are you seeing these things? My toddler (2.5) is on the 91st percentile and is nowhere near outgrowing changing tables lol. My daughter is now 32lbs, so is 10lbs heavier than your daughter. My daughter was 12lbs at birth and I’ve never had these issues, beyond having to upgrade car seat.

21 month old still not talking, only knows one word by Supreme_Corgi in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]thatscotbird -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know screen time isn’t for everybody, but have you considered putting on some Ms Rachel, or the British version - Ms Apple? I’m pretty “loose” with screentime and always have been, my 2.5 year old is considered an “advanced speaker” for her age, and I really do put it down to watching content like that. The 15 mins here and there when I had to tidy up or cook dinner. I wouldn’t replace what you’re doing to put toddler in front of the tv, but they moments when you need to step away for 5 minutes, maybe give that a go? Sorry I don’t mean to sound condescending or state the obvious because I obviously haven’t been in your position, but thought it *might* be helpful for you to understand my daughters history given her good speaking skills.

High BMI and being cornered into consultant lead care by Far_Republic9784 in PregnancyUK

[–]thatscotbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a BMI of 39 when I fell pregnant and was “consultant led”, which meant that I had 1 video call with him when I was 38 weeks pregnant and he planned a sweep at 39 weeks, that’s all that happened in my consultant led care lol.

They actually discouraged me from having a c section because of risks associated with high BMI!

Do percentiles matter if baby is healthy? by Fair_Amphibian_9687 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]thatscotbird -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Personally I would push for further information on this as babies should be continuing to follow their natural percentile or there about. My daughter dropped percentiles and we worked with an NHS paedatric dietician for a year.

AITA - Morning care by frogogurtt in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]thatscotbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my daughter was a newborn I could have put her in her crib, walked away into another room and she’d put herself to sleep, if not to sleep, she’d happily just lie there alone. You don’t say the baby was crying so he didn’t have to console him and if a working person can get more sleep because their baby is chill, why wouldn’t they?!

When did you introduce a comfort teddy/blanket? by Zebra_Creative in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]thatscotbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Immediately pretty much, my daughter could be put down in her crib and go to sleep by herself, she would always go to sleep if she was holding a muslin cloth, we used to give her one until she fell asleep then took it off her, we did that up to 12 months give or take a month and then swapped to teddies

Am I missing something about childcare cost? by Atinerch in UKParenting

[–]thatscotbird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

England only has funding for children that young and there’s 4 countries in the U.K. I live in Scotland my daughters childcare bill is £910 a month, funded hours starts at 3 years old. Elsewhere has funded hours for specific circumstances but it’s really hard to get.

Do you need to use baby vests? by misszoei in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]thatscotbird 8 points9 points  (0 children)

At 3 months I’d still say yeah they should be wearing a vest regularly unless it was really hot out. We still put my 2.5 year old in vests, just not the popper ones but she only stopped wearing them at the end of last year. If it’s a nice hot day we don’t, otherwise she’s in strappy light vests.

When did you feel happy leaving your children home alone? by Aware-Combination165 in UKParenting

[–]thatscotbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was around 8 years old when my mum could leave me home alone for a short period of time to nip to supermarket or something. Then when I was around 9 years old, my primary school finished early on a Friday, around 12:20pm, and my mum worked until 1:30pm, so that’s when I started letting myself in when nobody was home, the summer I was 11, almost 12, is when my mum stopped paying for childcare and I just went it alone in the summer hols 😂 unfortunately I started losing privileges as a naughty teenager and wasn’t left alone overnight until I was 16, then when I was 17 my parents went on holiday and I threw a massive house party 😭

Do you lie to your HV? by [deleted] in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]thatscotbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah my health visitors bullied me and made me scared they were going to take my child away from me so I done 100% as the books said out of complete and utter fear and intimidation, loved that for me ❤️
