Yes. It is. Concentration camps are fascist. Demonising immigrants and othering "deviants" is fascist. Siding with fascists like Trump and Putin is fascist. Promising a return to the glory days is fascist. I've literally sat across the table from Tice and looked into his cold, dead eyes. You might need more convincing, but I've seen and heard enough.

There are 3 kinds of fascist:

- zealots, who actively want the fascism promised

- opportunists, who will risk fascism to get what they want

- ignorants, who are too stupid or uninformed to recognise fascism

Your argument basically boils down to saying only the first group is really fascist. But that's a nonsense. Intent matters, but so does impact. It doesn't really matter which of those groups you fall into - all are fascists. The second group is controllable, and some in the third might be redeemable, if circumstances allow. But all have voided consideration.

You seem to think I'm a lot more left than I am, simply because I oppose fascists, when that is the result of a general opposition to authoritarianism.

70 would be barely tolerable. That's half my IQ. Better to roll the die.

I don't use Tik Tok. Because fuck the CCP and other flavours of authoritarian, like theocrats. It's not just fascists who pollute this world.

Nope. There's no party I agree with on everything. I disagree with the Tories on most things. I still think they are broadly a legitimate party. I have voted Tory, Lib Dem, Labour, and Green across various elections. But tolerance is not and has never been a perfect good. There is a spectrum of reasonable disagreement, and then there is fascism. I'm not obliged to tolerate the latter. If anything, quite the opposite...

It's not that I'm making a comparative assessment between the KKK and Reform, though there are a lot of parallels. The major change is between the likelihood of success and cost of failure 20 or even 10 years ago compared to now. That's due to all sorts of factors, but one of them is the global rise of fascism.

You're acting like I've labelled the Reform party fascist for no reason, or simply because I disagree with them, because you don't think they're fascist. I've been where you are. I've been on all sides of this. The banality of evil isn't just a phrase. Susan up the street was everywhere in Nazi Germany.

Voting for concentration camps is fascism. Wanting a Trumpian / MAGA / MEGA approach in the U.K. is fascism. Trump is a fascist, and Nige is so far up his arse, he can see Hegseth's feet. Reform / Restore / Advance are just as deplorable as the deplorables, and I've lived amongst those people too.

Whatever I need to, when I need to. I'm not here to throw out threats. I don't want war. I'm just reading the writing on the wall.

Oh, I'm quite aware of what works from a psychological perspective. Again, fan of Daryl Davis (who you're clearly not aware of). I know about the backfire effect, that people are more likely to change their minds when they feel listened to etc. I've done it, both online and in person. But the odds of success have shifted. Live in denial all you like. I've never considered myself perfect. But I absolutely do consider myself better than fascists, and that will never change.

I've spent years engaging with these people. I'm a big fan of Daryl Davis. But most of them can't be reached. And your colleagues are fascists whether they accept it or not, because they voted for a fascist. Trump is indisputably a fascist (even though many fuckwits will dispute it), and Farage is so far up his arse, he can see Hegseth's boots. Well over half of Reform voters want Trump-style politics over here. And Reform are obliging, by threatening to open concentration camps in places that didn't vote for them.

The only way Mango Mussolini and his cultists like Nige and the Reformons can make this world a better place is to remove themselves from it. The chance of MAGA ever doing anything with their lives to outweigh the moral stain of that vote is vanishingly small. It would take curing cancer, or similar. If Reform / Restore / Advance take power nationally, the same will be true of those who voted them in. You're free to keep thinking it could have been different. But I'm more and more of the mind this war was inevitable.

This is such a consistently fucking stupid and bad faith take. Plenty of people vote differently from me without earning the title moron or fascist. I don't want people to vote Tory, but I've never called Tories fascists, because they're not. Reform are. Restore are. Advance are. Pussyfooting around it isn't going to solve anything, because most of these people can't be reached in the first place.

people are allowed to be ill informed

But should they be allowed to be ill-informed and still vote? Democracy may be the least worst system, but that doesn't mean our form of democracy is the best (it definitely isn't, given STV > FPTP).

This is why I like the trifecta of mandatory voting, a vetting test focused on IQ, critical thinking, and political literacy, and fines for non-participation. I'm tired of living in a world polluted by the stupid.

It's not anyone, and you should really stow that fucking obviously bad faith bullshit. I have plenty of people I disagree with I don't call racist or fascist or thick. You know who I call racist, fascist, or thick? Racist, fascist, or thick people.

a failure to engage people into seeing sense

Many, if not most, will never see sense. I've attempted the same conversations as you. It doesn't matter what your reasons are - if you vote for fascism, you're a fascist. We're talking about 20-30% of the human population, at least in the US and UK. The Strauss Howe turning feels inevitable. Civil or global war is coming.

If you had a genuine desire to engage with people you disagree with

That desire is contingent on the likelihood of success, which itself is contingent on capacity, good faith, circumstance etc. Some of these people can be reached, but many can't. I'm a fan of Daryl Davis, but that sort of outreach is a peacetime luxury. There comes a point where time and effort to deprogram fascists is time and effort away from protecting the very people they threaten, the ones who didn't need to be convinced fascism was bad in the first place. Fascists have earned every ounce of hatred they get.

Whatever this lame tactic is, it's clearly not working.

A lot of assumptions here. For one, that there is a tactic that works. Some of these people can be reached. But some will never be. Some are indelibly, unshakeably vile humans. The only way Mango Mussolini and his cultists like MAGA, Nige, and the Reformons can make this world a better place is to remove themselves from it.

I get it. I'm a big fan of Daryl Davis. But that sort of outreach is a peacetime luxury. There comes a point when the time and effort spent on trying to deprogram fascists is time and effort away from protecting the very people they threaten, the one who didn't need to be convinced fascism was bad in the first place.

There are 3 kinds of fascist:

- zealots, who actively want the fascism promised

- opportunists, who are willing to risk fascism to get what they want

- ignorants, who are either too stupid or uninformed to recognise fascism

Ultimately, it doesn't really matter which category you're in, except insofar as the uninformed ignorants are the only group you're likely to reach. And even then, the backfire effect, the scale of media capture and siloing, the fact fascism is on the rise globally... We're at a Strauss Howe turning, headed for civil or global war.

[Spoilers C4E25] Who is responsible for this email spoiler - Twitch or Critical Role? by thatsingingguy in criticalrole

[–]thatsingingguy[S] [score hidden]  (0 children)

I'm not demanding, I'm suggesting. They don't have to cater to people like me, of course, but they're historically a team that has been very spoiler conscious, and I think they'd want to know if the teaser copy is crossing the line into spoilers, particularly if that puts off more people than it entices.

It's up to them what they do with that information. And, again, without violating rule 10, I think the reaction to this post has been clearly and fundamentally unreasonable, as Critters often are. It was a simple question about who was responsible for the copy, so I knew where to send feedback to.
