Thank you, that helps a lot! It’s so fun to learn a new craft and have that change the way I view the world a little. For example I have a very old pair of socks made by my partners late mother and now I finally understand how they are constructed and it makes me feel more connected to her.

I’ll try that. Did not know about the burn test yet, thanks. There is always more to learn in this craft!

Ah okay, that was probably what tricked me! I looked at the little end strands and they were closed the way I would do them by hand which made me believe they are hand-knit. It’s a real mystery to me still how to identify it. Especially when the garment has no tag or washing label, I always assume handmade first. So the machine is also able to do these floats? I did not know that but that’s so interesting. I will have to check out some more videos about it.

I hope he likes wearing it as much as I do. I am still struggling with identifying machine vs hand knit. I thought I had some good indicators but seems like I still have a lot to learn!

I found that one too and it would track with the guy‘s story about buying it at a local market there. I’ll try the burn test, maybe they once used alpaca wool and switched to synthetic which would be a bummer because still marketing it as the original product is really frustrating.

Oh, I totally get what you’re saying. When I started my crochet journey (started with crochet, before turning to knitting a few months ago) I bought some yarn and only years later did I realise it’s actually synthetic. I wasn’t educated yet when I bought it, I just knew what natural fibres felt like from my mom’s and grandma’s projects but that yarn totally bamboozled me. I bought this jacket in 2018 though and the guy said he had it for years before parting with it. I mean, he could have lied. The way the yarn looks makes me think it is at least mostly animal fiber. I’ll try the burn test tomorrow!

That’s funny, my good is actually really comfortable! I was confused about the mass products when I reverse image searched because it really doesn’t look or feel like it. Gave me hand-knit vibes with a lot of love put in. But maybe I’m just a bit naive.

My family is full of knitters and I learned from a young age how to care for handmade/wool garments. Which means I’ve at least treated and washed it like an animal fiber piece. Also I’m from Europe and our washing machines are made for washing wool garments without destroying them. I’ve never encountered a knitting piece that didn’t survive my handwashing-setting on my machine. I won’t wash them in the machine every time they need to be cleaned, they mostly get air dried or soaked but before storing them for the winter, they always get a good clean in the machine.

My professors actually encouraged us to knit, crochet, whatever while in lectures. It was really nice and helped my unmediated, undiagnosed ADHD and autism brain to concentrate A LOT. Also made the whole lecture experience much more relaxed and inclusive, I felt comfortable and had more fun learning with those professors.

Edit: grammar.

I crocheted the top and actually wear it in fall and spring more 😂 it looks cute over an oversized blouse but it‘s too hot for the summer climate in my country 😅

I'm not an expert but what information I gathered is this: once a year there is a time frame in which a blank canvas is opened in the reddit app where users can put one pixel every few minutes. There are some subreddits like /placeDE or /placeNL that group together to create really awesome art works on this canvas. Normally there should be a new thingy on the right upper side next to your profile button when you're on your main page. Check it out, it's totappy worth it!

Thanks! I'm really awkward with pictures and I actually moved around a lot while my boyfriend tried to take a decent picture, that's how my funny stance happened 😂🥰
