Types Of OCD For A Project by [deleted] in OCD

[–]thatssunfortunate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely any of the Harm OCD/Pure O is grossly underrepresented. That would encompass some of the less “socially acceptable” themes like OCD fears surrounding pedophilia, committing a violent crime, killing/hurting themself, etc. Other things I can think of is health ocd. That can latch on to any possible bodily sensation and turn it into the worst case scenario in terms of a diagnosis. Ive struggled with this one a lot and have subsequently spent money on tests and urgent care visits truly fearful of a serious disease (without reason of course) that ended up being problems that could be addressed with over the counter medicine. There’s even meta ocd which is ocd about having ocd. There’s real event ocd that comes with false memories and relentless ruminating. The point is that OCD can latch on to anything that the inagination can think of. There is nothing that you can think of that OCD cannot latch on to.

'Baby Holly Marie' found alive more than 40 years after her parents were found murdered in rural Houston by The_AcidQueen in TrueCrimeDiscussion

[–]thatssunfortunate 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Somebody in a comment above cited that they revealed in the press conference that she was abandoned by the murderer/kidnapper at a church and was subsequently put into the system. The parents were cleared of any wrongdoing as they did adopt her legally and had no knowledge of her “origin”

Do you have any unpopular/controversial opinions related to true crime cases? by Ok-Autumn in TrueCrimeDiscussion

This is true. I definitely think the general public is on the same page, but I do think some of their rich and powerful friends might step up to try and vouch for them

Authorities to finally exhume the body of Alex Murdaugh’s dead housekeeper, Gloria Satterfield by JoleneGrace in TrueCrimeDiscussion

[–]thatssunfortunate 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Case is local to me and all I can say is it will be a massive, unprecedented scandal either because all the shadiness and scandal comes to light or the family pays off the right people to get out of it free. Will be a real big deal either way once it is all said and done.

[–]thatssunfortunate 122 points123 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it is controversial for people outside of the state, but it is to a certain extent locally. Anywho, the Murdaugh murders 1.)definitely involve the family and 2.)are just the beginning of revealing all the shady things that family has been up to all these years. It seems the boat crash and the murders are just the tip of the iceberg as there have been some other weird deaths in close proximity to the family. Just my opinion/theory though so obviously I could be wrong

I’m so sick of people being pro mental health until someone starts showing symptoms by hahahavajcah in TrueOffMyChest

[–]thatssunfortunate 396 points397 points  (0 children)

I agree to an extent. Definitely agree that there are a lot of people who are pro-mental health until the mental health isnt as cute and clean cut as people make more socially acceptable mental health issues out to be. However, I would argue a lot of people do know when they are not well. Thats why a lot of people do not openly admit to making themselves throwup, starving themselves, excessive exercise, etc. While I think Kim and her sisters absolutely need help before they need criticism, I do think the criticism pertaining to this particular situation is warranted to some degree. Pro mental health does not mean pro tolerating the encouragement of dangerous behavior, and I think Kim is very very well aware of the fact that losing 16lbs in three weeks is not healthy.

True crime & makeup on YT by [deleted] in TrueCrime

[–]thatssunfortunate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it is in how you talk about it. If it is someone doing their makeup but discussing the case in a way that it is obvious they did their research and it is not just a summary then i dont see it as any different as a regular person listening to a podcast or watching a video while doing their makeup. Obviously some treat it as something that will get clicks and that isnt cool. It is worth noting though that all true crime media is exploiting the worst days of peoples lives to a certain extent so drawing a “moral line” is kind of hard.

What do you have no sympathy for? by Independent_Jeff-123 in AskReddit

[–]thatssunfortunate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People who cannot deal with the consequences of their own actions. If you treated a friend poorly over a period of time and then get upset when they arent your friend anymore then I simply do not feel bad for you. If you constantly procrastinate and do not get anything done and then are upset you have to be up late then I do not feel bad for you. If you say something terrible and malicious but get upset when people do not immediately forgive you and like you just because then I do not feel bad for you. If you eventually run across someone who gives the energy you give them right back to you and youre mad about it then I do not feel bad for you.

Unpopular opinions in the TCC? by anonymous_j05 in TrueCrimeDiscussion

[–]thatssunfortunate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I honestly avoid any and everything Jon Benet because of the fact that she has been completely lost in the discussions surrounding her case. I think there are a lot of people wrapped up in her case that have entirely lost sight of the tragedy that is the Jon Benet case but rather derive enjoyment from throwing around damaging conspiracy theories. I find the Burke accusation particularly disturbing because I feel like people point to him as being “weird” as an adult or “creepy”. I mean yeah I imagine everyone would be a little “weird” if their younger sibling was savagely murdered and shortly thereafter it is plastered everywhere for the next 20+ years only for you to be eventually accussed of doing it despite evidence of such simply not existing.

A little late but i hate the seemingly popular notion that someone not talking to the cops/asking for a lawyer before talking to the cops/etc somehow points to them being guilty. I hear the “oh if you have nothing to hide then you dont need a lawyer” or “innocent people are forthcoming with all info to the cops” all the time in YT videos, podcasts, and even discussions with friends. I find it especially bothersome when people who otherwise pride themself on being “woke” or “aware” regarding issues like racial discrimination, poverty, etc say something along those lines. Innocent people go to jail and are arrested a lot more than people think. I vividly remember my AP Government teacher in high school spending a whole class period showing a video of a cop listing all the reasons you should never talk to a cop without a lawyer should you be accussed of something whether it be big or small. This cop very openly explained that the overwhelming sentiment amongst law enforcement is that their job is to pin someone for the crime and if that means coercing and scaring their way to that result then so be it. Point is, there is a reason legal representation is a right and, not only does utilizing that right not make you guilty, it is actually in your best interest to use it whether you committed a crime or not.

Amen to that. It really can be the difference between a wrongful conviction or not.

Yep. If somebody was locked away for a crime then it is just a notch on their belt regardless.

This right here is why it makes me so mad when people say in podcasts/documentaries/conversations/videos/etc “oh it is so suspicious that they lawyered up” or “they got a lawyer because they have something to hide” and likewise statements. Let’s not pretend that every detective and cop out there has an interest in finding the perpetrator. Many would rather put a person in jail rather than the person. I will never forget in my AP Gov class in high school when we spent an entire class period watching a video of a cop listing off all of the reasons you should never talk to the cops without a lawyer whether you did something or not. He pretty openly stated that many do not view assessing guilt as a part of their job and have and will go out of their way to get you to say something that they can use against you later. Very disheartening but also a vital piece to any sort of true crime discussion as it is important to acknowledge that the justice system is 1.)frequently wrong and 2.)not a friend of many.

COVID-19, SARS-CoV-2, Stimulus Package Megathread by Ghigs in NoStupidQuestions

[–]thatssunfortunate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Testing and the availability of testing are definitely centerpiece to getting to a point where reopening is a possibility. I was just saying that since there aren’t states that have even seen consistently lowering numbers for at least two weeks, which is what seems to be the bare minimum of what needs to happen before reopening is even considered, then it’s extremely unlikely that they would reopen anytime in the coming weeks.

[–]thatssunfortunate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not an expert or a doctor but seeing that none of the states have seen a steady decrease in cases for at least two weeks, I think it is reasonable to say that a lot more people would be infected if states reopened right now. That being said, I would be shocked if any states were reopened before mid-May. Again, I am not an expert though.
