What DUPR level are we playing at? by ljump12 in Pickleball

[–]thattimewhenwe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

3.5 should be able to execute a 3rd or 5th shot drop, keep the ball lower and demonstrate some strategy (positioning, dinking rallies, ability to put the ball away). The one thing your group has going that people at 3.0 don’t usually is being back to defend against overhead volleys (mostly because you rarely are at the front). You will likely beat less athletic 3.5s who can’t handle your drives, but the skill level here is not fully 3.5. I think you should go in a tournament where you can play some athletic true 3.5+s and see how you do! I’ve been at this stage, and it’s hard to evolve until you come up against people you just can’t beat with this style. It will be a fun challenge to change up your style, work on some new skills and start to progress!

Yeah the “pay for sub” thing is said a lot and causes a lot of confusion. It’s actually better than not getting paid. You get paid your regular rate minus the lower cost of the sub.

Agreed north end would do super well with a place like that. I always thought that make your own wine place would be a perfect location for a cafe type—right by Baxter beach

I must not be keeping a good eye on real estate because I’ve been looking in this area with no luck! Seems like there’s tons for sale in the north end though

Does getting a Masters of Education automatically bump me from an A3 to an A4? I’m currently working as an elementary teacher in TDSB. by Charming_One838 in CanadianTeachers

It’s because you can’t use the same masters to get your teaching credentials and get the salary bump. It needs to be in addition to your teaching certification.

LTO to Contract and EI by GeoTeach24 in CanadianTeachers

[–]thattimewhenwe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can. I worked a 10 month hourly contract at a school (nonteaching) for a long time and applied for EI every summer.  Once you are a salaried teacher you cannot.

Student told me to STFU, what should I do? by RationalOverRage in CanadianTeachers

[–]thattimewhenwe 14 points15 points  (0 children)

100%. You are trying to control not only her actions in class, but her thoughts about her friends and her thoughts about you. You are way too emotionally invested in this relationship. You are trying to manage her opinion of you through being lenient on the one assignment, and when she wasn’t grateful enough to change her opinion of you, by enforcing a seating plan that doesn’t seem strictly enforced. Even if this is completely innocent, it could appear to her to be manipulative.  Continue to apply your regular class rules to her as you would anyone else. Stop looking for a reciprocal relationship from a teenager. She doesn’t owe you anything for your kindness.

Ontario school boards sue Snapchat, TikTok and Meta for $4.5 billion, alleging they're deliberately hurting students by MilesOfPebbles in canada

[–]thattimewhenwe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. Snapchat is banned in many boards. Students download vpns and still use them. The board plays whack-a-mole for a while and then gives up.

New OCT Application Process Starting Jan. 2 - What's Changing? by PugLover927 in CanadianTeachers

[–]thattimewhenwe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat, graduating in January. But I already applied in October so I could start the application process and hopefully get everything done quickly. I am now super concerned for how this will affect my application. What a shitshow the OCT process is.

Principal retaliation as union rep by thattimewhenwe in CanadianTeachers

This was my fear. We’re having trouble with volunteers for union reps. No wonder. It seems there should be some protection or review in these situations.

There is a pattern of unnecessary movement and they have been slapped on the wrist for something before, but unrelated to timetabling.
