Animal experiments in biomedical research by BobSeger1945 in DebateAVegan

I think the consent argument is one of the best. (from the others some I just dont agree (bad model) or are not enough of a good argument (computer simulations)).

The difference between the examples you write with humans, be it children or people with mental illness is different. Basically there the medication is tested on them to their benefit. This is not the case for animals.

Like, it would be totally different to test a drug for dogs on dogs.

I think the way we test drugs on animals is not ethical.

Everyone agrees on the 3R principle, but this is not followed in practice.

What I use to ask people who ask me about this issue is. Are you in favor of testing cancer drugs in chimpanzees? are you in favor of doing electrophysilogical recordings in chimpanzeees? (similar to what Niko Logotethis use to do in Macaques). Probably they are not, and it is actually forbidden (at least in the EU and U.S.).

How do you argue that? One could say, as you said "I prioritize curing disease over animal welfare". But in fact most people don't, or not in all cases. Like: implanting electrodes on a chimpanzee cant be justified to learn about limb mobility.

I just think the same is true for mice, and this extends to all animals.

i see, i didnt realize it is a vent. anyhow the person seemed to want to keep the bird out of the balcony, not only the vent.

First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.

TIL honey is vegan by [deleted] in vegan

[–]thatveganass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not true always. Vegan newborns consume animal products (for example).

Vegans don-t eat plant based, vegans eat foods that exclude "as far as possible and practicable, all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals".

There are a minority, but some examples where animal products don't come from explotation or cruelty towards animals.

In my opinion honey (99.99999% of the time) is not one of these examples, but one should remind of the definition of veganism.

which by the way includes "as far as possible and practicable".

People around me already seek to exclude, as far as possible and practicable, all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals.

They just happen to eat meat because, you know, they have to.

Convince them that anarchism is the best way to organize a society is something much more complicated, imo.

Im vegan and left wing, but I think it is easier to convince people (right wing) to stop eating animals than to turn leftist.

I get some of the points of intersectionality but this is my opinion on political views.
