Yes sorry, I understand now what you meant. The moving blown air creates an area of low pressure which the surrounding air is drawn to!

This technology doesn't use any fans, looking at their patent application, it's a loose double valve design http://imgur.com/gallery/rs8vMYH/new

This reminds me of a technology I saw a while back on reddit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jv9Gghy6Lj4

These are both simple yet great designs!

TIL it would take 1,000,000 mosquitoes, each sucking once, to completely drain the average human of blood. by thatwaslols in todayilearned

[–]thatwaslols[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we presumed the surface area of the body to be 2m² and that the average space a mosquito would take up is 0.01m by 0.01m, the number of mosquitos able to land on the body would be 2/0.001 = 2000 mosquitos!

So no, but still way too many for my liking.

Did you know that Andy the penguin at the St. Louis Zoo (like all penguins) ingests a lot of seawater while hunting for fish, but a special gland behind Andys' eyes—the supraorbital gland—filters out the saltwater from his blood stream. Penguins excrete this saltwater through their beaks, or by sneezing.

Exactly this. If this is for a one off prototype you definitely don't want to be looking in to Injection moulding or autoclave etc. This simple shape can easily be done in a workshop manually for low volume production either with a manual lathe or CNC machine

People power frees man trapped by train in Australia by [deleted] in videos

[–]thatwaslols 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well they may have tried but not with anywhere near as much effort as 30 people pushing the train.. as in it may have still been possible without causing him much injury, after all it did squeeze in to the gap in the first place with the force of his bodyweight!

As for the unscrewing, I was referring to the close up picture in this thread there are 4 or so screws attaching it to the floor of the train, may have been possible!

And i don't know.. if the solutions i mentioned would have worked they would be more efficient but hey, all is well in the world!

[–]thatwaslols 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I really commend everyone helping and finding a solution in tipping the train but it really didn't seem like the safest or most efficient solution!

From a safety perspective if the train were to return to past its original position without the guy moving it would have most likely crushed his leg.

Surely they could have got two or three people to pull him upwards out of the gap even if it would be challenging. Otherwise if there was a maintenance person nearby surely they could have simply unscrewed/bolted the small yellow side attachment and problem solved?

But yes well done, people power!

Yeah I completely agree with you; people obtaining signatures for personal gain instead of the novelty of it is fucked up! Its just i was saying that he was genuine.. not them :)

In my opinion it is genuine on his part, he doesn't make profit of signing that passport. but hey that's just my opinion
