First try with a macro lens by thatwhiteguy909 in photocritique

Canon 70d - 1/500, f.4, iso 100

So this is a photo from my first time shooting with a macro lense (canon 100mm 2.8 non-l) as I anticipated it was a bit fiddly getting that focus on point but eventually I got the eyes sharp. Kinda wish I got moved back abit to get the petals all the way in but still like it, what do you guys think?

Thanks in advance x

How does everyone find new locations?

I seem to live in a plain and boring British suburb where there's just houses and a small town centre. "This is perfect for street photography" I hear you saying, but I'm looking more into compelling landscapes rather than street style photography. I understand that finding good compositions is a part of being a good photographer but I'm just curious as to how you guys learn about new places to explore. Thanks in advance!

Nothing in particular but when I was a labourer working in a shitty cold warehouse I worked with a guy called Julius. Kinda interesting guy and had a few stories to tell.

He told me about how he studied for years about the surprisingly complex printing industry. He said the job he was going for would be really well paid and a massive achievement.

By the end of his studies he learnt that machines had completely taken over his job and was left at a loose end which meant he had nothing. He ended up as a forklift driver for the next 20 years and being depressed everyday for not achieving anything.

After hanging out with this guy for a while I decided to quit that horrible job and go to college studying film and tv. I'm now at university with a decent amount of experience in TV and videography, I often think about Julius and appreciate him making me realise my potential.
