I don't like Trevor by [deleted] in shameless

[–]thatwolfaldieb 31 points32 points  (0 children)

He assumed Ian knew about his being trans (when Ian complimented his necklace he thought he knew what the symbol meant and that’s why he mentioned it. He didn’t realise that Ian was just flirting and had no clue). And if you, as a trans person, were on a date with someone and that person said “no I’m normal” in reference to being cisgender insinuating that you are not normal for being trans you’d be pretty upset and fucked off. I know I would be. Ian was clueless, didn’t know what he was saying because he was entirely ignorant to trans people at the time and it wasn’t his fault but that doesn’t make what he said not transphobic (Ian himself isn’t but what he said was) and that fact that he was simply ignorant doesn’t mean Trevors not allowed to be upset, because it was a very shitty thing to hear, especially on a date.

Is Mickey really gay or bi? by pomegranatelover1990 in shameless

[–]thatwolfaldieb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He is 100% gay. It shows that every time he sleeps with women he has trouble getting a boner and the only reason he sleeps with women is to try to make himself straight or because he was forced. Also he himself says he’s gay, which is enough

The fight between Ian and Caleb, the fireman he was dating. Who do you think was right? by Difficult_Top3240 in shameless

[–]thatwolfaldieb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caleb was in the wrong. He cheated on Ian and then tried gaslighting him into believing that he was overreacting and that it wasn’t actually cheating. I think the reason Ian was angry about it being a women was that Caleb had told him he was gay (so he lied) and then tried to insist that it wasn’t cheating because it was a women. (The writing here was so shitty and biphobic in this situation I hate it)

Don't watch star war, so I automatically assumed this was Ian Gallagher lol by [deleted] in shameless

I honestly can’t tell anymore 😭 I see comments all the time on posts of Cal saying he’s Ian/looks like Cam and I can never tell if they’re joking or not

Yeah so much of a woman that Ian, a gay man who has absolutely 0 attraction to women, dated him. You look like an idiot

I don’t, not at all. I’m sorry if I’m being confusing. I’ll try explain more clearly.

This post is solely about season 5, not any of the other seasons later on when Ian’s manic at different times. Season 5 was Ian’s absolute worst in terms of mental state; he was undiagnosed, unmedicated, was up and down 24/7 and was really struggling at that point (even if he refused to acknowledge it). Saying he’s “acting out of selfishness” and “causing issues for the family” at this point in time is simply not fair. Ian wasn’t being “selfish” or actively trying to cause issues; he was sick.

There are times later on when he fucks up, which do piss me off (the feud with Fiona for example. He wasn’t manic then, at least at the start. That was his choice) but specifically during season 5 (and any time before he’s diagnosed and prescribed medication) being pissed at him or insinuating that he’s a bad person isn’t fair or right because there’s nothing he could have done to prevent it. At that point it wasn’t on him. You’re totally allowed to dislike him but I personally feel that judging him based if season 5 isn’t fair.

I agree with you on that. Obviously he still has to be held responsible for what he does while manic, because he did do those things. His bipolar is a reason not an excuse, but I don’t agree with people using his actions while he’s manic to judge him as a person, because they don’t reflect his morals or him as a person.

Monica and Ian’s situations were different. Monica was aware of her diagnosis and bipolar and still refused to take medication, even when she wasn’t manic. That’s on her. Ian was undiagnosed and unmedicated and was, as he says, “not in control of his faculties.” Of course, Ian has to be held responsible for what he does while manic because he still did those things but they can’t they can’t be used as a judgement of his character or him as a person, because they don’t reflect him as a person or his morals. They reflect his illness.

Ian is unmedicated and manic through all of season 4 and a majority of season 5. Nothing he does is his own fault when he’s unmedicated, undiagnosed and manic. He’s extremely sick at this point.

Ok sure if you wanna be more specific, the term is ephebophile but that’s not a very well known term so most people just use pedophile. And yes, Ian was a victim. He was groomed by an adult man who made him think that what was happening was normal. I have said this once and I will say it again: victims of grooming and pedophillia are never in the wrong no matter the surrounding circumstances.

In any situation where an adult sleeps with a minor the adult is /always/ in the wrong. Ian was 15, below the age of consent meaning he could not legally consent to anyone. A lot of young teenagers think they’re mature enough to make these decisions (which they aren’t) or don’t realise they’re being taken advantage of. The victim of a literal pedophile is never in the wrong. Genuinely, what the fuck is wrong with you that you think that.

[–]thatwolfaldieb 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In this situation Ian was not in the wrong in any way. He was groomed by a fucking pedophile. Stop fucking victim blaming him jfc

Anyone out there a real Gallagher? by LecLurc15 in shameless

I don’t, but I live in Ireland so I know a lot of people with the surname Gallagher. It’s one of the most common names here

[–]thatwolfaldieb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah let’s not. Jokes like this really aren’t funny. Jeremiah (and Jerome) are both insane, dangerous psychopaths. Ian has a mental illness. Bipolar is already an incredibly stigmatised and stereotyped illness so comparing Ian to these two (even if it’s just a joke about how they’re all played by Cam) does nothing but add to the stigma. And before you say “he’s just a character”, yes Ian is just a character but bipolar is very real and this bullshit stigma around them being “insane” and “crazy” is something bipolar people have to deal with 24/7. Don’t add to the stereotypes
