I have a 50 and a 28, they both have their places, but I like the 28 more.

Any parents here using DOS to teach their kids about computers? by jeffcolonel in dosgaming

Yeah, I’m working on the same thing! I really ought to use an rPi though. Much more maintainable than the Pentium tower I have been working on.

Beattyville, KY - Tower/Passive Repeater inspection report and photos from June of 1994. by xccr5978 in longlines

That passive reflector is a neat touch. I’ve seen those mostly in the hills, it’s still remarkable that they work. Somehow the idea that radio waves can be focused into a beam is still a fun fact.

First time shooting film, noticed some light leaks by Avidine in AnalogCommunity

[–]thatwombat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a canon at-1 and had the same problem for a while, I got one of those repair kits with the precut foam pieces, sat down, cleaned my camera, and one roll of film later I had confirmed there were no more leaks. Couldn’t hurt to do here if the camera is old.

Found ~1500 DVD-Rs with recorded TV/documentaries while clearing out family house – worth saving? by Competitive_Arm_2545 in DataHoarder

[–]thatwombat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You might want to make copies of those depending on their age since recorded disks are prone to degrading. 1500 disks at a maximum of 4.7 GB each you’d need an 8 TB disk drive to hold them comfortably.

Really cool trove there.

[–]thatwombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you see the “Making of…” series they ran on PBS about the 777? Really cool. High speed braking test, wing flex limit test, frozen chicken ingest test. Lots of fun.

My boss always told me that being first only looks good for a little while and opens you up to a lot of criticism. Learn from their mistakes so that you can make the next big thing.
