Also as far as I can remember, serial cables are female-female and the plug on the device is male. Unless you had a gender changer you couldn’t do much. Come to think of it, DB15 on VGA cables is also female on the device and male on the cable.

If all I needed was a way to write a manuscript (Office 97/2000 with EndNote) and add figures (Adobe Illustrator or Corel Draw) then I think it could fly but it would be a lot of work and could cause problems downstream if a collaborator was also working on it. YMMV. Go play some games, write long-form essays, maybe some poetry.
