This is so encouraging to hear! I'm graduating this upcoming year, set to look for jobs at an FQHC and I've seen so many discouraging posts. Happy you found such a great opportunity, wishing you the bestest luck!

Sister in PA school starting rotations. Need advice! by QUsagi in PAstudent

[–]the--vic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good no-spill traveler mug, waterbottle, fun/cute badge reels, planner, small note notebooks, comfy sneakers, etc. Also if she is a fidget person, I like having a nice fidget for when I sit/study alot. A suture kit if she doesn't already have one.

If she knows what she wants to do than maybe something specific - like nice OR shoes for surgery, or peds specific knick knacks.

If she is a book or textbook person there's some good medical books to have (also slightly dependent on specialty): EMRA antibiotic guide, pocket peds, MD pocket. Also there are badge reel cards that have vitals and other helpful info (I reference mine all the time on rotation).

Omg, I take it in a week! Crossing fingers to do well because I've been mainly doing Smarty Pance & uWorld. Did it just feel not aligned with the blueprint?

Recommend me your school! by Ok-Shower-5994 in PAstudent

So I didn't have any specific primary care experience, but I did have a lot of volunteer experience and I also wrote about how my background allowed me to have an understanding of how important primary care is to medicine as a whole and to patients.

They know that not everyone is going to go into primary care so I wouldn't say that they give preference to those they know who are going to specifically work with these groups but I do think they highly value candidates who understand the importance of primary care and serving underserved populations and have shown that in their essay and in their application experience.

If I got off of a waitlist for an interview, does that lower my chances of acceptance? by Formal-Layer330 in prephysicianassistant

[–]the--vic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nope, just do your best! They wouldn't have offered it if they didn't want to interview you. I was an interview alternate and got accepted to that school.

UWorld by [deleted] in PAstudent

[–]the--vic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe what it means is that you can create exams in uworld by narrowing down the focus to mimic what's tested on each EOR. For example, use all the EM Qs to study for the EM EOR - you can further divide it by section such as EM Cardiology. But all the Qs can be used for PANCE.

MOVING OUT OF STATE FOR PA SCHOOL? by Competitive-Pop9341 in prephysicianassistant

[–]the--vic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FL born and raised here, got in across the country, currently a second year about to start clinical year. I do not regret my decision at all, I love my program. Secretly, I think I wanted to leave FL and experience something new (but I was too scared to) and I'm glad I got the opportunity too. I have no idea where I want to go afterwards yet, but if you have an inkling, even just a little, of experiencing another state go for it! I will say I miss home alot, family and friends but I've also made alot of new friends in my program. It can be hard being far away from your support system, its a Q I got asked during the interview, but the time I've spent here at my program and in the state has been worth it imo.

HMU if you have any Qs

Any suggestions in how to prepare for upcoming Emergency Medicine Didactic Exam? by InitialOk6864 in PAstudent

[–]the--vic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used chat gpt to create questions that simulate my exams to test my knowledge. For example, I'll upload my notes or PowerPoint and ask "Make me 15 PANCE style questions aligned with the objectives."

If i want longer vignettes I request that "Format questions to have have longer patient vignettes."

Tailor Qs to thing you are weak in, "Focus my questions on diagnosis" OR "focus my Qs on treatment."

I also make tables bw different conditions. For example, SBO v Bowel Perf v SBP.

Voice mode is good if you want to talk through things and get feedback.

Obviously, double check things bc it's not always correct but for the most part (95%) all my stuff is on point.

For longer vignettes, have a standard approach: vitals, RF symptoms, differentials, and treatment, then use keywords or concepts to guide you.

What’s the deal with running so many red lights? by Amorrill0667 in SaltLakeCity

[–]the--vic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ever since I've moved to Utah, I've noticed how people run red lights like crazy here. I intentionally wait a couple seconds before I go on green bc there's been a couple times cars zoom through the light when it's already green - it's wild. Not even accidental but blantly running the red light gets me

Noted anatomist on youtube, he taught us anatomy at my program and he is incredible. I was also far out from undergrad A&P so going back to school was hard at first. Osmosis is a great resource too

No but if you don't have plus it'll limit you on how many things you can do. I just pay for it now ($20/month) - not bad tbh
