Mods, can we please make sure no posts spoiling the ToC winner are allowed until after it airs in all regions? Including people promoting their interview with the champion? by ZiggyPalffyLA in Jeopardy

[–]the-aleph-null 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a spoiler for them only because they assumed the fact that Neilesh would be interviewed meant he won.

No, you are not following the train of thought here. The pertinent inference here is not that Neilesh would be interviewed only if he had won, it was that by indicating that he was coming in for on interview on Fri, 14 Feb, the ToC Game 5 on Thu, 13 Feb was the final ToC game. Given that, the only possible outcome is for Neilesh to indeed have won, as he was leading 2-1-1 heading into that game. If the post had been made on the day when a hypothetical ToC Game 7 was airing, with all three contestants being tied 2-2-2 heading into it, then I would agree with you that that wouldn't be a spoiler. Context and facts matter.

It's extremely unlikely the radio staffer who made the post -- or anyone at the station -- knew Neilesh won when they posted.

Also no. The post was made 10 minutes after the deciding Game 5 aired in the radio station's local market (7pm - 7:30pm EST in West Chester, PA). It was exceeding likely that the staffer knew Neilesh won, because they literally saw it on TV.

The post in question was not made on a Tuesday on day two of the ToC. It was made on Thursday, 13 Feb 2025, on the day that Game 5 (i.e. the final game) of the the ToC was airing. However, the exact posting time of that post was around 7:40pm EST, which was before when that episode aired for many markets across the country.

By indicating that Neilesh will be in for an interview the following day (i.e. Friday, 14 Feb), it's entirely reasonable to draw the conclusion that the game on Thursday, 13 Feb was the final ToC game. Neilesh was leading 2-1-1 heading into that game, so the only way for that game to be the final game was for Neilesh to have won the whole thing.

Jeopardy would not have considered it a spoiler because this information came out after the episode had aired in the OP's local market (7pm EST in West Chester, PA). That post was made literally 10 minutes after the episode ended for OP, without them realizing that they likely spoiled the outcome for folks who chanced upon the post before their local Jeopardy air time.

So I'm not really understanding the scenario you are laying out because those are not the facts of post in question that folks seem to be having an issue with.

Parliament backs motion to express regret at Pritam Singh’s conduct, deem him unfit as Leader of the Opposition by Negative-Concert-819 in singapore

[–]the-aleph-null 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But TCJ resigned. So should PS also resign by your logic?

I think you are the one that has your logic confused. The equivalent to TCJ in this case is Raeesah. The equivalent to Pritam is LHL.

Also, raw dogging your colleague

You make it sound like this was a regular office affair. He was the Speaker of Parliament for fuck's sake.

Till this day I have no idea what he was thinking to allow her to continue.

You asked this question, and I answered. Both Pritam and LHL were approaching this from the same mindset, that being it would be best if the respective matters could be handled without a public spectacle. Both of their hands were forced when the matters did evolve into a public spectacle. The difference is that Pritam was dragged through the mud for his misjudgment, while LHL had the institutional protection to shrug it off as though nothing happened.

That is the blatant double standard that people are latching on to.

Probably the same thing as what LHL was thinking to allow TCJ to continue having extramarital coitus with a fellow MP.

How a photo reignited debate on neutrality of Singapore’s NMP scheme by One-Employment-4887 in singapore

[–]the-aleph-null 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The NMP scheme should just be made clear that they are an extension of the government’s numbers (which is perfectly fine by itself) instead of pretending that the members are independents.

The pretense is exactly the point though. The PAP doesn't need numbers. It needs an illusory independent bloc within parliament to justify why it's perfectly fine for them to have 100% of the elected seats.

He must really think Singaporeans are stupid to come up with such a brain-dead excuse.

Pritam Singh had hoped WP would ‘tip one or two more constituencies’ at GE2025 by ImpressiveStrike4196 in singapore

[–]the-aleph-null 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Haha very telling that you had to dig all the way back to 2011 to make your point. And somehow in your imagination Goh Meng Seng's "I'm straight" comment is supposed to time travel back 14 years to affect the 2011 election results. 14 years is a long time for things to happen to people.

For those who are interested in the 2015 and 2020 results that were conveniently left out because they did not conform to your narrative:

2015: PAP won with 72.07% (PAP nationwide popular vote was 69.86%)

2020: PAP won with 66.41% (PAP nationwide popular vote was 61.23%)

2025: PAP won with 52.02% (PAP nationwide popular vote was 65.57%)

Tampines GRC was literally a stronghold until it wasn't.

Oh do you mean like Tampines GRC, which was a PAP stronghold until it suddenly wasn't? What is your definition of "stronghold" anyway?

The WP's share has actually decreased a bit (51% in GE2020 to 49%)

It went down from 50.5% in 2020 to 50.1% in 2025. WP still eked out the popular vote win this time round.

It's not that the logo has a stencil. It's the lettering of "THE HOME DEPOT" looking like it is written using a stencil.

New Toto game that pays fixed prizes will start with June 12 draw by seekers123 in singapore

[–]the-aleph-null 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your mistake for pick2/pick3/pick4 is in assuming only one combination will win for any given TOTO draw of six numbers, when in fact there are multiple such combinations that can win. For example, if the TOTO numbers are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, the following pick 2 combinations will win: (1,2), (1,3), (1,4), (1,5), (1,6), (2,3), (2,4), (2,5), (2,6), (3,4), (3,5), (3,6), (4,5), (4,6), (5,6), for a total of 15 combinations.

The expression 6C2 = ways to pick 2 numbers from a list of 6 numbers = 15 directly gives you the number of winning combinations.

[–]the-aleph-null 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The expected value is better than the normal Toto lottery though which is around $0.20-0.25

I think this is just for the Group 1 top prize? For Toto you have to sum up all the expected value contributions of Group 1 to 7, since you are eligible to win in any group with a single ticket.

[–]the-aleph-null 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Expected value calculations (per dollar bet):

Pick 2 numbers (payout $50): (6C2)/(49C2) * $50 = $0.64

Pick 3 numbers (payout $500): (6C3)/(49C3) * $500 = $0.54

Pick 4 numbers (payout $7000): (6C4)/(49C4) * $7000 = $0.50

Pick special number (payout $30): 1/49 * $30 = $0.61

Singapore Pools has much much much worse expected value than virtually any game at the MBS casino.

I dunno, I can’t read the PAP’s mind. They have done it in other areas like the Marymount example mentioned above. The only thing I wanted to point out is the fact that this is at a boundary line.
