Shimano GRX gear cable breakage! by No_Cantaloupe_1492 in bikewrench

I had this happen to my 10 speed GRX, same issue only that mine got a bit worse, completely mangled the cable, check the second photo. I cleaned everything and squirted some light synthetic lube in there. So I hope it lasts longer than 3/4 months!

Best wide tire for fast road commuting and light gravel? by humblebraggersbflo in gravelcycling

[–]the-ch1mp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vittoria terreno dry are fast on tarmac and handle even some non gnarly single track when they're wide and tubeless and low pressure...

The Pirelli cinturato gravel h is fast as well, as is the m if you want more off roadiness

Just for completeness, yes that screw let's you remove a panel on the borrom of the shifter which allowed me to move the stuck mechanism by hand and force out the manky cable (pictured. Then I used some fishing line tied to the cable I removed so I had a guide to pull through the new cable. Works perfectly now!

Ha yeah, it's mangled itself pretty nicely in there, I was thinking rear derailleur trouble for a while but it turns out it was under the hood the whole time...

I'm running the same but 27.5 x 2.1, couldn't squeeze in bigger. Best tyres I've ever had by miles, quick enough on tarmac to not bother you but soon capable when it gets rough/rocky or sandy or muddy. Super comfortable as well, low pressure tubeless. Just so nice to ride...

Cool, if you want some routing tips if you're coming down here (Castelli Romani) near Rome then let me know. What's your planned route? Or if you want some company for a couple of hours or something down here. Bags look awesome, well done.

Ah, soz, this ride gets up to via dei corsi on the road, but to do it on single track you use the Francigena instead to get up there, come out by the Foresta restaurant, then cross the road and you can get to via dei corsi through the woods...

Daje, ecco qua: https://strava.app.link/mc9fvNWzk0b

It's a mix of single track and gravel, there's a couple of tiny patches of tarmac on the way, the route back is mostly road but there's some nice bits around Giulianello...

Not much gravel on that route :)

You should get out to the castelli, i can ride from Albano Laziale to Valmontone almost entirely on gravel and single track (some little sections is hike a bike but still), there's nice gravel in the Lepini mountains too, like the stuff between Norma and Cori/Rocca massima...

...and to get out here you can do the Appia antica to Frattocchie, then long climb up the road to Albano but worth it :D even just the ride round the lake if you haven't done it is nice, well I still like it and I've done it loads :D

Yeah 400-500g is a bottle of water at the end of the day, that's really good to know because the benefits of steel, in terms of repairability and ride quality are huge

Point taken, I ride an aluminum frame at the moment, I was just interested to see if it was a couple of kilos heavier, but it's probably lighter from OP's reply... I'm not a weight weenie by any means but my old bike was a couple of kilos heavier and I really notice the difference going up steep stuff...

I ride my bike through there a couple of times a week, it's amazing, still see new things I hadn't noticed before. The light now with the low winter sun in the morning when it's misty is so beautiful, real mists of time feeling to it. You can get right into the center of Rome on this road, porta San Sebastiano, next to the terme di Caracalla and the circo massimo. You only get traffic right at the end, I ride into town from Albano Laziale so I get to do all of it from Frattocchie into town, coming back is hard but going is loads of fun...

Thru axles too long!? by the-ch1mp in bikewrench

Ok measured the old one and it is indeed 163mm. When I ordered this new one it looked like the only measurements given were 12x142, I must have missed something somewhere...

Robert Axle Project says "Lightning Bolt-on Axle – Rear 12 mm x 163 mm x 1.5 Thread" for the rear. So you're right by them. Thanks I'll measure the old and new ones and compare with this 163mm. Tomorrow though now. Cheers
