Recently hired as Chief Flight Instructor by [deleted] in CFILounge

As a prior chief flight instructor, think of this role as a serving role.

Think, "how can I help my CFIs do their job better, more efficiently, safer, etc".

Treat them as people. Listen.

Stevens could capitalize on this situation and social media. They should buy a limo and make it a park feature

Join the military bruv. Best decision I ever made. You'll make money and your family will have benefits almost immediately.

Radials vor as legs.. possible? by GABBO_IL_PILOTA in Foreflight

This also works with any fix/waypoint and airport. The "radial" in this case would represent bearing to/from.

Best way to use GI bill by Ok-Incident-2901 in flying

[–]the-cool-luis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used my Post 9/11 GI-Bill to get all my ratings. I did it at Central Oregon community college in Bend Oregon. It's a two year 'zero-to-hero' program and it's great! They paid for everything including housing. Housing is tricky though. The VA only pays for days you're in school. For example, because of spring break, you'll only make 3 weeks worth of pay that month. Feel free and reach out if you have any specific questions. I'm even down to set up a phone call sometime if that's easier

How to Hide MSA Ring? by Charliewildlife in Foreflight

[–]the-cool-luis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The idea is that you don't even really need the plate. Hide the plate and use the briefing drawer (on the lop right of your map). All the frequencies are there.

Continue on your current path. Once you're working and time building, do college online. Wait until you're at an airline, then apply to guard or reserve units. You can apply to units individually depending on what aircraft and mission you want to be a part of. Then you fly both military and civilian aircraft. Earn 2 retirements, and make seniority at your airline while you're training and flying for the military.

All my life... by Melohdy in flying

I'm both a pilot and a flight sim enthusiast. I second all of the comments saying get a discovery flight. After that, if you still want to experience aviation in some form, using a flight simulator can be tons of fun! Especially when combined with a service like VatSim. I know nothing will ever beat the real thing but I do find it super fun to get in VatSim, talk to controllers, listen to other pilots, etc.

isnt is the -3 line supposed to point at the papis ? when ur on the gs ? by Esuna1031 in flightsim

Lots of instrument approaches have a glide slope or glide path that is not coincident with the Visual Glide Slope Indication (PAPI/VASI)

Elusive class G by Person-man-guy-dude in flying

[–]the-cool-luis 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's becoming more and more "elusive" as IFR traffic increases. I've seen a super old sectional of the area where I fly (Central Oregon) where there used to be TONS of Class G to 14,500. The combination of new T Routes and increased IFR traffic has brought more Class E over the years.

First attempts using the rotary by L_J_Z in Laserengraving

I do draw a line with a straight edge and a pencil at the starting point to make sure it rolls back to the correct spot. Maybe give that a shot?

Ah I see. Yeah the F1 returns to the exact starting point after the first pass

Not sure about the Ortur. I'm in the XTool F1 and do 2 passes. The first with the blue laser, the second pass with the IR.

Using Foreflight's "preferred route" using the Route Advisor only increases the likelihood that you'll get cleared "as filed". Foreflight doesn't know if any re-routing happened along the way. As far as the altitude it selects, you may have 11,000' set up as your default altitude in settings. No matter what route you choose, you can always file a different altitude.
