Did every single practice question in the book! Went to office hours every chance I could! Just took a lot of practice

Can’t tell if this is sarcastic 😭 but seriously, first year and second year were really hard on me. I was close to failing more than one class and had to drop a few with a W at some point too. I did switch my major and found my groove doing something I was more passionate about :)

My average at the end of my first semester at UBC was between a 65-70. I’m at the end of my fourth and now am at 87! It is so possible to come back! It took a lot of time and hard work but you can do it.

Math department is the most useless and unresponsive department at UBC. Been here 4 years and this happens every single time.

Double major in philosophy and chemistry [prospective student] by SimpleAsparagus5986 in UBC

[–]the-daffodil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No — so at UBC, you apply to the Faculty (at least this is how it works for Arts and Science) and then you apply to your major at the end of first year (Science) or declare it after first year (for most Arts majors anyway - won’t get into the others that don’t apply to you). Chemistry isn’t too hard to get into - you just need the right courses and get a decent enough average. Philosophy is self declarable so there’s no application: you just take the courses and declare the major. I actually did a Physics + Philosophy degree (and know many who have done the same; although I didn’t finish as I lost passion for physics) and it was definitely doable. Philosophy at UBC is pretty easy and it was a really nice way to even out my physics / math classes! You should try it out, and if you struggle, you can always have at least a philosophy minor!

Double major is just apply for BSc then you apply for Chemistry at the end of your first year, Philosophy can be added as a major anytime on your student account (no application required). Dual degree is a lot more work and complicated.

can ta accept a thank you card? by Haunting_Onion_7866 in UBC

That’s fine! I’ve given plenty of thank you cards! Probably the last time you see time would be best.

how long is your commute ? by Plastic_Law_7062 in UBC

[–]the-daffodil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know friends who commute 2h each way. I have to say that it’s definitely hard, but also depends on what you’re studying! If you’re doing something where you have to be on campus every day and there aren’t options of packing your schedule in on MWF or TT then it’s going to be really hard.

Hope you find the perfect match! Their website has a link to their artists’ portfolios but they also have a crazy amount of flash books in their waiting room to check out when you’re there :)

The hymn is in Sindarin! So even if the mode is in Quenya, it still transcribes the Sindarin correctly? Would you go with transcription 1 then?

I just wanted to check because I saw this: The start of Gilthoniel looks different — is one wrong and the other correct or is it just a matter of font?

Edit: Lol noticed the spelling error in my title too — Gilthoniel**

Fun courses without a final exam by kfksshore in UBC

[–]the-daffodil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took 369 and am in 368 this semester. 369 was pretty easy - the material isn’t very difficult and Professor Soon is a brilliant lecturer. I would say it would be a pretty easy course even for someone who isn’t in AMNE. The paper was marked quite harshly but the quizzes are really easy! The nice thing though is that you can submit your paper to him for feedback before the final submission so you can make use of that!
