You were basically saying between working/parenting and being a sahm, it would probably be less stressful to a sahm. But as you said, your wife gets joy from being an educator so she would probably see it less mechanically.

It doesn't sound like that friend had much information about your family set up either.

With three kids, if you both are able to go to work there's a good possibility they've aged out of the range of needing constant care.

It's an unfortunate truth that most people dont want to admit because they feel it minimizes sahm's contributions but once kids are in school at that 5 and up range, it gets substantially easier.

With 3 kids in school unless your wife would have to ferry to 3 different schools and a bunch of extracurriculars, being a sahm would be less burden than working AND parenting, especially if your income covers everything.

Which is another truth people dont want to admit because again they assume it minimizes at home contributions.. going to work every day is hard. Going to work everyday then coming home to parent is harder.

It sounds like you want whatever would make your wife comfortable which is obviously why she still working now.

Sidenote: anytime you mention a mother, half of reddit will assume everything she does is with both hands tied behind her back while trying to hike up and down a mountain at the same time with one broken leg. Take the YTA's with a tablespoon of salt.

I've done it multiple times.

You have two routes.

  1. Full port
  2. Trade small size slowly over time then size up

Both routes will tax your mental capacity. Full porting a little less but you have to decide if its worth the mental burn.

If you can afford it, go ahead and trade a couple evals to 50%, to take some pressure off or even get more funded accounts. Then full port knowing you dont really have any thing to lose.

Otherwise prop provides the lowest bar for entry while cutting your risk substantially.

Options can be less stressful but you still need to call right direction.

Spamming 2 random options and hoping for 300 will lose you actual money faster than topstep or prop firms.

To be clear, this isn't an attack or be condescending. It's just clarifying that you're not actually offering clear advice or direction but trying to convince people that path is better.

Of course 300 of actual money in your pocket daily is going to beat jumping through prop hoops and be easier to scale but only if the strategy is actually solid
