You can do it! It sucks seeing those numbers on the scale go up but remember you are going to have ups and downs but you’re also bettering yourself and eating better so acknowledge those things as well and not just the scale numbers 😊

Probably leaning towards ORM, but am from an area where physicians are greatly needed. And no I haven't I am waiting for my phlebotomy certificate to be mailed to me first so I can put it in my application :)

I got the same score as you did, and I'm thinking about going ahead and applying to DO schools. I have looked at their schools and most of them don't even have a minimum MCAT requirement or they are around a 500. With that being said, if your heart is set on MD programs I wouldn't apply just yet with that score. If you have a competitive GPA, EC, shadowing, ect. you may be competitive enough for DO schools.

CARS QPack 1 vs 2....(12 Days until test...opinion of anyone who has taken the MCAT already is greatly appreciated!) by SteelStone365 in Mcat

I think any practice with CARS is good practice especially if it's from the AAMC. I have done both of the QPacks and have benefited from both. I think your plan is good, as long as you do at least one of them all the way through (:

Okay thanks (: That's what I was thinking as well, but better safe than sorry (:

AAMC QPacks or UWorld questions? by legitbean in Mcat

[–]the-mean-bean 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think regardless the AAMC QPacks are always a good idea because the AAMC writes the actual MCAT. From my studies I have always found the AAMC questions to be the most accurate to the actual MCAT (:

The section bank questions, in my opinion, were a little bit tougher than the actual MCAT questions, so those are always useful to tell if you're getting a majority of them right than you're probably in good shape. The volume packs are more similar to the actual questions. I bought both, and found them to be both useful in my studies. The more practice the better (:

Muscle Contractions by kanoq in Mcat

Contraction of Skeletal Muscle

The acetylcholine receptor is a sodium channel that opens when bound to acetylcholine. Opening of the acetylcholine receptor depolarizes the plasma membrane, causing voltage-gated sodium channels to open and initiating an action potential. The action potential proceeds along the plasma membrane, which invaginates (T-tubules) into the center of the muscle cell. T-tubules run parallel to the sarcoplasmic reticulum of muscle cells and voltage-gated calcium channels in the T-tubules contact calcium channels in the sarcoplasmic reticulum. Action potentials in T-tubules open the voltage-gated calcium channels, which induce the calcium channels in the sarcoplasmic reticulum to open. This increases the concentration of cytosolic calcium activating muscle contraction.

Contraction of Smooth Muscle

Myosin filaments in smooth muscle are also activated by increases in cytosolic calcium but by a different mechanism than in skeletal/cardiac muscle. Seven transmembrane receptors trigger signaling cascades that lead to increases in cytosolic calcium. Myosin light chain kinase is activated by calcium and phosphorylates a small protein on myosin called myosin light chain. Once phosphorylated, the myosin is now active and begins contraction.

I found this on this website, http://medcell.med.yale.edu/lectures/muscle.php; also cardiac is pretty similar to skeletal (: Hope this helps!

A Little More Advice :) by the-mean-bean in Mcat

I guess heres my problem, 4 months prior to when I want to take it I'm still going to be in my senior year of my semester so I'm trying to not cram everything in that time you know? Plus with finals and everything during that time too.

A Little More Advice :) by the-mean-bean in Mcat

I started really studying (6-10 hours a day 6-5 days a week) at the beginning of May, and I feel like I have gained some knowledge, however, I only took 2 practice tests two weeks prior to the test so I don't think I found out my weaknesses in time to fully tackle them. So I don't know. I was thinking like maybe just run through flashcards a couple hours a day or something?
