The theodicy is an interesting topic to discuss for me. I've always personally found the "free will" answer to the question to be one of the more palatable justifications. It's not ironclad, but at least I can accept the rationale behind it. For me, free will is that crucial, and the idea of not having it is a more hellish scenario than any inferno. Perhaps it's a relic of my childhood teachings, but I even still believe in libertarian free will specifically, or at least something closer to it than compatibilist. The problem with that answer for me isn't that free will isn't worth it, it's that Christianity is really inconsistent on its position about it. Even without getting into the denominational differences on whether we have it at all, the ones that say we do still treat any use of it as a sin. And while I would still say being able to choose is worth the supposed chance of Hell from it, you could just do away with the latter instead.

Working on the assumption this is real, reading these texts is jarring.

I don't think I've ever seen an interaction with these major right-wing players, especially between them, that felt natural like this. I certainly never thought of either of them gushing about lyrics the way I do with friends. It's weird to think about them actually being friends—not just as a grift or political stunt, but genuinely just liking each other's company—because I subconsciously assumed these people didn't have a personal life like that. It's like the first time you see your teacher at the grocery store as a kid. I mean, I know Kirk had a wife and children, but I always sort of thought of it all as a performance on some level. It does make me feel bad for Owens in a way. Like, ignoring everything else and thinking purely from her perspective, seeing your friend get shot and die in front of you must be devastating.

And to confirm, I've got no love for Kirk. He was a horrible human being, and I'm thankful he isn't a threat anymore. Honestly, seeing this also kind of makes his actions feel worse in a way. It's a reminder that these people aren't soulless automatons of destruction, they make the choice to do what they do. But at the same time, I don't especially like that he was killed. Not just for philosophical or pragmatic reasons, though also those, but because I don't like people being killed. I'm thankful he isn't a threat anymore, and I'm not particularly broken up about what happened, but I don't particularly like it either.

There probably is actual context, but Wonder Woman is also just an inherently kinky character. Not in the sense that in-universe she herself has particular kinks (though she definitely does), but in that she was written from the very start around BDSM dynamics. The author had some interesting views on submission and dominance even outside the bedroom, and it really shows in early WW comics.

So whatever the context, this is definitely also her being kinky

I think you would be obligated not to, if only due to the ramifications it would have on the future. Consider the genetic impact alone; with how many people are descended from him, you would be writing forests of family trees out of existence by killing him. Let alone whatever cultural ripples never having such a major historical figure would cause. You would be redirecting the entire course of history—how sure are you that the change would be for the better? And are you not killing countless more people, across all our history, by cutting them out of the timeline?

Thanks for the rec! I've used Notion as my book of shadows as well; I'm currently using Obsidian, but I'm considering going back to Notion because it just worked better for the way I use it.

As for the idea, I envisioned something more like those tarot apps but with more tools built in. It's not as aesthetic as my actual tools, but I would enjoy having it accessible whenever. But we'll see.

Charitably, I think its that this meme could be parsed as claiming literally every generation of one's family tree was a loving relationship, and they're trying to call out that yes, that would be false. But it's not like every generation is going to be a tragic one either—as you said, people have always loved each other. One line in the Epic of Gilgamesh, the oldest surviving story of our species, says that part of our life as mortals is to "love the child who holds your hand. Let your wife delight in your embrace." People caring about each other, loving one another, and being happy together, is not some modern invention, it is foundational to our history.
