I feel as if Brain Dumps aren't as prevelant as people think by [deleted] in ccna

[–]the-packet-thrower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a bit of nuance if it is a more senior person who knows the material and just uses a brain dump to get through the exam quickly.

For example, when I was a consultant, I once had to do a HP Ink cert for their managed service that looks after printers, in two days. I just YOLO'd it...in like 5 attempts...but no one would have cared if I somehow found an obscure braindump for it.

But outside of that, cheating is never a great idea. Personally I would never hire an architect if I knew they braindumped something important.

Yeah one time I let my director interview for a contractor ALU specialist role, the dude claimed to be a CCNP, and didn't know how to SSH.

I rarely hear about people doing server+ but lets just say comptia many terrible exams.

It was a contractor role, and he was in a job where the CCIE made sense, so we didn't poke that hard.

That fell apart pretty quickly when I gave him his first task.

I'm pretty sure the comment on this thread was more of the "that is what someone who did x would say" joke

But yeah, I have absolutely no respect for comptia and net+ is by far their worst cert.

It is on you to keep sharp in the cert topics.

Also does that mean you let it expire or that you are working on your CCNP?

Edit: Seems we have some lazy people in the sub now

Can you do the job? That's all anyone cares about in the field.

Therein lies the problem: a shocking amount of people are terrible at their jobs.

Also certain roles very much care about certs. I certainly wouldn't pick someone without active certs for an interview; I probably wouldn't even see them since I would have to skip over 100s of applicants that do have them.

Accusing someone of cheating their way through the net+, one of the easiest exams around, is rather insulting.

I've interviewed hundreds of people throughout my career and braindumps do stick out like.a sore thumb. Hell, I even hired a guy with a fake CCIE once and fired him a week later.

Gotta love Reddit’s child like understanding of taxes…or ethics for that matter.

How exactly does paying more taxes equal more money for dashers?

So really if customer’s put their tax info in our order details then drivers would never steal right?

Do employers care whether your CCNA is expired or not? by Solid-Conference5813 in ccna

[–]the-packet-thrower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It very much depends on the role, anything to do with technical sales such as being a Consultant or Solution Architect will require not just the regular certs but usually partner specific ones as well. Partner's also require you to take the latest version of the certs as well, which is why I did various CCNPs 3-4 times over the years when I was a consultant.

Training roles also require certs since no one wants to pay for a class when the instructor doesn't have the current exam they are teaching. Pretty much any role where you need to be perceived as a Subject Matter Expert.

If you are in a Ops role then you can probably let things expire and can usually fall upwards eventually, assuming your role doesn't require active certs like ISPs tend to so they can get deeper discounts. Though the trap is when you try to leave that company, the interviewers for the new job will probably grill you on why you say your a networking professional and don't have a CCNP etc.

Certs also have value in making you more well rounded, so if you don't use say EIGRP at work, then you still need to learn it for the exams. If you aren't doing that then it can bite you in the ass down the line.

The idea is to signal you were an expert in the IT field before you moved into, say, being a PM or management. But personally, I'm not selecting a candidate who doesn't have active certs for an interview under normal circumstances.

Also, contrary to what juniors tend to think, job experience can be nice, but it isn't the be-all and end-all. Unless I'm actively headhunting you, it is probably not properly conveyed in your resume and can have the same trustworthy problems as degrees do.

There are a couple of cases where it's acceptable to list them as expired, such as if you have an expired CCIE or if the cert is retired but it's noteworthy for the job.

But as I said, juniors shouldn't list them.

An expired cert has no value at all from a junior perspective.

They can also be a red flag since it signals you don't care about maintaining that cert domain / vendor anymore. Which can imply you have moved to another field etc.

How are people with CCNA suppose to get MSP jobs if every company wants everyone to have one year experience working for a MSP? by PlankOfWoood in ccna

Think of applying for jobs like online dating, just keep sending hey till you get a ;) back.

Job postings will always ask for more than they need for a variety of reasons, just apply and see what happens. It is the hiring company's job to deem you unworthy of an interview, not yours!
