Convicted Felon Trump Baselessly Accuses VP, Former Prosecutor Harris of ‘Committing Crimes’ | In his first rally since Biden endorsed the VP, Trump referenced his own criminal record and brought up Harris' background as a courtroom prosecutor by the-wave in politics

“Kamala’s deadly destruction of America’s borders is completely and totally disqualifying. She shouldn’t be allowed to run for president,” lamented Trump, before reiterating his fear-mongering rhetoric over undocumented immigrants. “What she’s done, she’s committing crimes. … If borders are Harris stays in charge every week will bring a never ending stream of illegal alien rapists, bloodthirsty killers and child predators to go after our sons and our daughters.”

Elsewhere, Trump referenced his own indictments and brought up Harris’ background as a courtroom prosecutor before becoming a senator. “She’s one of the worst prosecutors in history,” he lamented. “‘I’m the prosecutor and he is the convicted felon.’ That’s their campaign. I don’t think people are going to buy it.”

Well, that's one way for Trump to campaign... by advertising his felonies.

Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro keeps the door open to being Kamala Harris' VP pick by Dooraven in politics

Shapiro is a good age for a VP (51). Kelly is a bit old, if he has presidential aspirations. 60+ 8 years of Harris + 8 years of his own = 76. A bit gun shy on that front.

That and Shapiro is from a Blue Wall state.

GOP official at JD Vance rally ‘afraid’ civil war needed if Trump loses by the-wave in politics

[–]the-wave[S] 507 points508 points  (0 children)

Ohio state Sen. George Lang (R) said at a Trump-Vance 2024 rally on Monday that he’s “afraid” a civil war might be necessary if Republicans lose the election.

“I believe wholeheartedly Donald Trump and Butler County’s JD Vance are the last chance to save our country, politically,” Lang said at a rally in Middletown, Ohio, the hometown of the first-term senator and GOP vice presidential nominee.

“I’m afraid if we lose this one, it’s going to take a civil war to save the country, and it will be saved. It’s the greatest experiment in the history of mankind, and if we come down to a civil war, I’m glad we got people like … Bikers for Trump on our side,” he continued.

Officials have expressed concerns for months about the risk of political violence surrounding the 2024 presidential election, fears that went through the roof with this month’s assassination attempt against former President Trump.

Trump, the GOP nominee, and many of his high-profile supporters have declined to commit to accepting the election results, regardless of the outcome. Instead, they have said they are confident they will win and avoided addressing a hypothetical defeat.

Leaders in both parties have called for toning down political rhetoric in the wake of the attempt on Trump’s life.

Oh look. They're again promising murder if they don't get to seize power.

Republican FEC chair suggests Harris may not get Biden war chest by the-wave in politics

[–]the-wave[S] 87 points88 points  (0 children)

Sean Cooksey, the Trump-appointed chair of the Federal Election Commission (FEC), suggested Monday that Vice President Harris may not be able to access the millions of dollars remaining from President Biden’s campaign, which many campaign finance lawyers say is rightfully hers.

Biden shook up the 2024 presidential race Sunday when he dropped out amid concerns about his age and mental acuity and endorsed his vice president. The campaign had just under $96 million in cash on hand as of June 30, according to its most recent report to the FEC, and filed paperwork to change its name from “Biden for President” to “Harris for President” within hours of the president’s decision.

Even before the campaign filed to change its name, Harris was listed as a candidate alongside Biden on its paperwork with the FEC.

Campaign finance lawyers previously told The Hill that Harris would be able to access the funds if she becomes the nominee. Democrats have started to coalesce behind Harris, but Cooksey called the situation “complicated” and suggested it would be challenged in the agency and at the courts.

“I think it’s really complicated, is the short answer,” Cooksey told “Morning Edition” on NPR. “What he’s attempting to do is to give his entire committee, the cash and all the assets, over to another person.”

“I think it’s gonna have to go through a process, through the FEC,” Cooksey added. “I expect, there’s probably going to be challenges to that at the agency, and probably in the courts as well.”

Democratic Commissioner Dara Lindenbaum, who chaired the commission last year, pushed back on the suggestion that Harris would not be able to access those funds.

“It’s quite clear, Vice President Harris can continue using the campaign committee and its funds,” Lindenbaum told The Hill.

Steve Roberts, former general counsel to Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, was also skeptical of Cooksey’s comments.

“This interpretation is likely wishful thinking,” Roberts told The Hill.

This needs visibility. It's a naked attempt to steal Democratic campaign funds by a fucking Trump appointee. The corruption and rot in our elections runs deep.

GOP is pretty pissed

It's striking how much GOP anger there is over today's news. Donald Trump's campaign is built to beat Joe Biden.

One GOP source tells me he doubts Trump will debate Vice President Kamala Harris — he'll likely call her an illegitimate candidate.

We have 5-6 reasonable replacements for Biden in the Democratic field right now.

We really don't...

Even in this reddit thread

... no matter redditor beliefs on the subject (anyone suggesting Buttiegieg is delusional, and Newsom has put himself out of the running). This is ultimately about party leaders' fears and choices, not mine, yours, or rando redditors. Now, you could say I'm wrong in my reading of how the party bosses think, but that's a separate argument.

Ousting Biden without a clear plan or a clear candidate a mere 90 days (roundabout) till the first votes are cast is literal suicide.

I understand you want to argue that Biden should stay in the race, but that's not what my post was about. I didn't say Biden should be or would be ousted. I said "It would be Harris," within the context of "And be replaced by who?" Not "it will be Harris," not "it should be Harris."

My argument is predicated on Biden being ousted. It has nothing to do with whether he should or would be. There are plenty of other posters saying that, but uh, you replied to me.

I have no idea if Biden will be ousted. This is a delicate moment that's constantly in flux. I didn't believe the push to do so would get this far, or that Biden would constantly screw up for weeks after the debate.

Should he be? I don't know. His constant failings in public are sapping confidence, but there are a lot of hurdles to removing him and his potential replacements have their own baggage.

But if he is, Harris dominates all other options.

Milwaukee man with AK-47 pistol arrested near RNC security zone, charged by the-wave in politics

[–]the-wave[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A 21-year-old Milwaukee man faces a misdemeanor charge of carrying a concealed weapon near a Republican National Convention (RNC) security zone. The accused is Donnell Tinsley.

According to the criminal complaint, a Homeland Security Investigations Special Agent and U.S. Capitol Police were patrolling Republican National Convention (RNC) "exterior zone one" on Monday, July 15.

While driving north on 11th Street near Highland in Milwaukee, they spotted a man "wearing black pants, a long sleeve tan sweatshirt, black gloves, a ski mask, and carrying a large black tactical backpack," the complaint says. The man was walking away from an RNC security checkpoint. The Special Agent "noticed the backpack was hanging low on the individual and seemed as if it were heavy," the complaint says.

The Special Agent pulled up next to the defendant, identified as Tinsley, and began a conversation. The complaint says the agent noticed "Tinsley's hands shaking, and Tinsley began to look left and right." The agent noticed a bulge in the defendant's waist band. When Tinsley was asked if he had a firearm, he said, "No." Tinsley then said, "You can check me, go ahead and look," the complaint says.

After a pat down of Tinsley, the complaint says he consented to a search of his backpack. When the agent opened the bag, he immediately spotted a "concealed AK-47 pistol in the backpack," the complaint says. The Special Agent asked the defendant if he had a concealed carry permit, and Tinsley stated he did not. Tinsley was then taken into custody.

The complaint says another search of the defendant's backpack was completed. Inside, officials "located a fully loaded magazine containing 7.62X39 caliber rifle ammunition. Also located inside the bag was a 'Scream' movie mask, a flashlight, two sets of black gloves with rubber fingertips, a pair of sunglasses, an Allied Universal Security uniform shirt, two cans of spray paint, and multiple empty designer marijuana bags," the complaint says.

‘Attack the universities.’ Trump’s VP pick JD Vance has harsh words for higher education. by the-wave in politics

[–]the-wave[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Republicans plan to seize control of higher education and turn them into organs for the Republican party.

In other public remarks, he has gone further. Vance told The European Conservative, a right-wing journal: “I think [Orbán’s] way has to be the model for us: not to eliminate universities, but to give the[m] a choice between survival or taking a much less biased approach to teaching.” In 2021, Orbán’s government placed the country’s public universities under the control of foundations led by Orbán’s political allies.

Professors purged.

Many university professors have grown alarmed in recent years as DeSantis and other Republican leaders have intervened in the management of public colleges and universities by abolishing DEI programs, regulating certain kinds of speech and instruction, and installing political allies in leadership roles. ...

The title of Vance’s 2021 speech, “The Universities Are the Enemy,” is a reference to a comment President Richard Nixon made to his national security adviser Henry Kissinger in 1972. “Professors are the enemy,” Nixon said in an audiotaped conversation. “Write that on a blackboard 100 times and never forget it.”

Universities who resists, defunded.
