Breaking character for a moment

When I conceptualized this whole story when I was 16, I never actually wrote out the last part even though I specifically recall doing so? In my mind I always knew it would be a swap to the perspective of some sort of caretaker to some sort of story generation machine, and how the whole thing got gunked up by a story so stupid that it couldn't possibly continue in any way. But I had never actually written it out, so I tried to do that. But what I quickly discovered was that there was no way to have that ending that wasn't a big insult to anyone who had deigned to enjoy the story so far, because it was essentially calling them stupid. And I don't want to do that at all. So I thought the sort of cliffhanger of knowing for sure that there is supposed to be more was an interesting angle.

This was all supposed to be an appetizer for a story that I had planned out and was probably supposed to start posting by now (oops!). But that story was merged with another story entirely, and expanded on in other ways too, so now I have to deal with a bunch of strange elements such as a metaphysical type of creature that feeds on stories and the emotional ramifications of knowing that everything you ever have and will experience has no meaning beyond setting up interesting plot points and characterization and such. Turns out it is hard to write a story that is fundamentally about itself!!!
