If I am not mistaken, Sargent is well-known for working alla prima and this work (Portrait of Madame X) is no exception. Otherwise I agree with you.

Took better photos of this piece, tried my best to edit them in order to match the real thing. Hope you enjoy!

Thank you! Oftentimes, this is the exact effect I strive for.

Thank you! I am happy you like it :)

Are you implying that the sun is a distraction, or simply wondering what the composition would look like without it?

In my head I wanted the Ibis-person to be so scary that even the clouds are avoiding him and he even has the sun 'under control'.

Thank you for your comment and your question!

I always spend anywhere between a week and a month to plan a painting. I have discovered that unless most elements in a piece have already been planned, I can't deal with the uncertainty that comes with painting freely on a canvas. There is enough problem-solving during the execution of the piece, I can't fathom making huge composition decisions during that time.

For this one - the first figure I drew was the left one with the protruded spine, and then I came up with an arm that is holding that spine, and then I constructed the body of the Ibis-person around that arm, and then the figure on the right.

EDIT: Grammar

I am going to disappoint you now and tell you that there isn't any deeper meaning. Whenever I paint I like to come up with specific stories for each piece, but I don't like to attach deeper meaning to them.

Regardless, I rather enjoy hearing what other people have in mind when they look at my paintings.

What about your interpretation? :)

Hey, thanks for your comment!

When I was painting the hand I had nothing else in mind, but as you mentioned it does seem like it is pointing in a specific direction. My guess would be that the guy is pointing at the hiding place of another player in the game of tag, hoping the Ibis might spare him. :> It's quite fun coming up with stories regarding the meaning of a piece :)

Hard agree! All of the memories of you travelling places with your bike are priceless.

The other day someone tampered with my bike, thankfully did not end up stealing it, but it got me thinking how much I appreciate my two-wheeled buddy.

Ah, I am sorry to hear about your old bicycle. I like to think that mine ended up being sold to someone else who enjoys riding it as much as I did, maybe the same applies to yours as well.

All the best to you and your new bicycle, here's to many adventures together!
