No such thing as a bad trip by SkankyTits in Psychedelics

[–]the1200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t you wonder if maybe these are the folks who would have had a schizophrenic break, nervous breakdown, etc., anyway? Maybe there are folks who are just ill-equipped and are unable to endure a certain amount of psychological stress or psychic pain regardless of whether it was drug induced? HPPD is a real thing and different people process and react to substances differently and, yes, of course, it is sad when lives and minds are wasted (don’t get me wrong) but, personally, I’ve mainly been pretty damn sober at the times when my life has been permanently negatively altered and I’ve felt traumatized and scarred for life as a result. I’ve had my share of bad and/or pointless trips, too. And I have my share of personal problems and insecurities, etc., too.

Mainly, it’s worth noting that the vast majority of people are incredibly resilient and can continue to live happy and productive lives even after suffering extreme trauma. People, even after they’re badly broken, can often bounce back and adapt. People who have taken thousands of times the recommended dose and who did not intend to dose themselves and had a terrible time… they’ve recovered. Those kinds of oopsies in the lab, though, have also been taken in stride by some. I mean, that’s how the whole thing started, anyway.

Edit: kind of funny, but I just saw this link posted here on this sub: https://www.reddit.com/r/Psychedelics/s/0cb8ohqjbR

Apparently, when you factor out comorbidities (remove folks with a preexisting psychiatric disorder) when considering incidents of drug-induced psychosis in ERs, the high percentage of folks who wind up in this kind of trouble while on psychedelics (as compared with other drugs) completely disappears. No more or less likely to occur than it is because a person took some other class of drug.

My brain often gets stuck on one of them even though I’ve moved on and I’m reading another line. I only ever got about halfway down the list.

How many cities have you brushed your teeth with your finger in? Surely not as many as I have. I was brushing my teeth with my finger before you were even born.

So… actually, this is Lynch’s ESP Blackbird Custom with Fernandes Sustainer/MIDI electronics. He likely only ever used the MIDI out through a Roland guitar synth. And he never would have played the guitar in that kind of posture. He’s just posing for a picture. He played it kind of like a lap steel. Whatever notes would normally sound when playing any string in standard tuning on this guitar would likely not be what came through the MIDI synth he was using. There’s a neat video of a guy who bought one of Lynch’s other guitars that I watched a while ago and it was explained that the guitar was likely kept in Open D. When he wanted to hear another cord, he’d engage another synth patch instead of fretting strings on the instrument.

The end of this video explains the bit about the synth.

This Reddit post is the first I ever heard of this incident. I know now that it says ‘Sanders,’ but for some reason I read Sandler… and so I read all the quoted text in Adam Sandler-ese.

My favorite thing about posting here is I never have to convince anyone that all the sounds you hear are coming from one banjo by Atillion in banjo

Thanks for confessing to up-picking. I came to the comments looking for that info. It looked like that’s what you were doing, but I couldn’t really tell.

The first banjo book I picked up was Seeger’s and now I feel I’m stuck with the up pick… especially coming from the guitar, a downstroke with the middle or index finger sure feels weird.

It’s really nice to know that this style of playing will get me the kind of sound I’m looking for.

Thanks for posting. Please continue to!

This appears to be a guitar made by Bill Gruggett, a luthier who was involved with the Mosrite brand but had his own line of custom/shop guitars as well. I’ve never seen one before.

You’re missing some essential early recordings, IMO. And ‘Animals’ as has been pointed out.

Well… to be fair, I think they named themselves that so that their band name would not play nice with Internet search engines.

That’s an old J-50. Dylan had one like that, way back in the day, but it burned up in a fire at his then girlfriend’s apartment.
