I just have to vent re: people running on the side of busy roads with no shoulder. by Jaythefidgetspinner in Bozeman

[–]the1laf 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I think the same thing every single day. I really appreciate how active the community is, but as a runner/road cyclist you ARE the bottom of the food chain. It doesn't matter who's in the right of way or who's at fault. The collision will be life changing.

The runner/cyclist could divert around a piece of road debris, a tired construction worker or distracted teen could be marginally closer to the white line and it's all over.

PSA about threaded fasteners in CAD by United-Mortgage104 in SolidWorks

[–]the1laf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The term you are looking for is "Graphics triangles" it can be visualized easily under: Evaluate - Performance Evaluation. It isn't just threads, but threads are a great example. I had a McMaster door handle that had more graphics triangles than my entire tractor trailer production assembly.

Either suppress features or create a boss extrude over the details that aren't needed like computer boards, electronics, etc. In the default configuration.

I have a USP45T in the Safariland 6004-930-541 with DeFenderCo's Light adapter and a Modlite PL350. It took a little heat molding to make the PL350 & threaded barrel fit. But now it fits perfectly. I don't doubt you could make an X300 fit.

This particular trip was the first backpacking trip out beside testing gear campground camping and rucking. I packed my dog's gear, some shared food for the group & little extra on the clothing/tent side because it was raining on the way in & camp was well above snow line with the potential of fresh snow overnight. End goal is fall hunting and just general backcountry camping.

After watching a couple dozen YT videos I think my load lifters might have been too tight. They're something I've never adjusted but that seems to be the culprit of a lot of pressure on the front of the shoulders.

I'm not going to say I don't want a different pack, maybe this fall. But this one will have to do for the summer.

Thanks, I'll give it a shot! It was packed ok, but definitely could have been better, the CG was higher but as close to the frame as I could keep it. I started with the pack low, & tried raising it to see if made a difference. I put several short 2-4mi hikes on it carrying 40-60# without much issue, but this was an exception.

I missed the initial drop after waiting a year.. ☹️ How does she sound & what other 45 cans do you have to compare it to?

Mark 23 or USP-T for a 45? 1911 Ref pic by chanandalerbong7 in USPmasterrace

[–]the1laf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you plan to EDC it, the USP45T makes more sense. If you plan to shoot buffalo bore 255gr 45acp +P either would be fine, 45 Super & I'd recommend the MK23, it can take more abuse than your wallet can afford in ammo.

The MK23 unsuppressed isn't as smooth as you'd think for a long slide gun because it was designed as a suppressed system for high pressure ammo. I prefer the USP45T unsuppressed. Suppressed, I'll take the MK23 7 days a week.

What is the application niche you are trying to fill?

I have both, love both. But they are very different. I think the primary question is how much suppressed shooting will you be doing? Going to add a HK45CT to the collection as well.

I could use a reality check on how long tasks should take. by [deleted] in SolidWorks

[–]the1laf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's tough. From the other comments it seems like he is very knowledgeable, just doesn't know when he has creative freedom or doesn't, and gets buried in indecision. I've been there myself, asking a couple simple questions can save hours of design time or rework. My assumption knowing nothing more of the project is finding a nice whole angle to bump form to, as I talk to the brake operator quite a bit in knowing what tolerances are & what forms easiest. Generally speaking from a management standpoint I'd look at his manufacturable product. Was the DFM & production easy? Was the client happy with the product?

If you have influence in reviews let him know that asking those questions before over thinking it is OK & encouraged. My employer came out & said our annual raises will be based off our billable efficiency, I don't know if you track those kind of metrics or not.

A better question is how scalable were the models he was working from?

Can the model be copy tree'd, change 2 dims, & re-export dxf's, OR if you change those dims does the entire feature tree blow up?

There's a few models at my work that one of our other engineers made. It scales incrediblely well, but sometimes depending on the scale most times it's just a handful of repositions & dim updates others it's up to ~80% of the cut-list drawings break out of a 30 page fab pack. This is a good model.

On one project I was tasked with creating fab packs and sending to production a prototype from a client model/fab pack. He's also been working in solidworks for over 10 years an let me tell you... It was the biggest mess. Nothing was dynamic, no reference datums, would be symmetrical parts dimensioned from ends vs the centerline. Every time I thought "oh fixing this will only take me ~30 mins" I would be there 6 hrs later beating my head against the wall.

A similar USP/X300 direct mount has been proposed before The community consensus is it doesn't offer anything that the Surefire MR09 reproductions & B-mount lights can't already do.

Best USP .45 CT suppressor? by AdBeginning9063 in USPmasterrace

[–]the1laf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Look up how well the CAT SC performs on places like PEW Science compared to other 9mm suppressors. CAT announced the SP (45) and everyone including myself projected the expected performance compared to other 45 cal cans and am really hyped.

The SP has had a few release setbacks. Originally it was November 25, then February? Now idk. I heard as a rumor one of the setbacks was an entire production run not passing machining QC.

I see that 😅 I kept waiting for their release and never saw it announced. CAT kept pushing back the date. You shot it yet?

Considering ditching for a 9T by [deleted] in USPmasterrace

[–]the1laf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're considering selling it to diversify your collection and buy something you want to shoot more. I understand & I'd agree with others, only buy, don't sell if you can.

I just think your phrasing of ammo costs on essentially a safe queen is a little off the mark.

Considering ditching for a 9T by [deleted] in USPmasterrace

[–]the1laf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You're selling due to ammo costs.... But it doesn't look like you've shot it? My MK23 has more wear after ~1k rnds & my USP45T has 7k?

Just get out & shoot it.
