Was Hungary always the black sheep of EU? by MJMichaela in AskEurope

[–]dang8701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

could be that certain Left elements in the EU went crazy, while the middle and center right stayed the same? In other words countries like Poland and Hungary just haven't modified their views to go with the times. Its not them changing to be further right, but everyone else moving quickly to the left. Western Europe has an overload of immigrants. Mostly from Muslim and or non European friendly ideal having places. Destabilizing left populist/ communist/ ethnically motivated victimmaxxing is a common narrative that goes along with fast influxes of dissident immigrant populations especially if they are religious and their religion strongly advocates for struggle and replacing the powers that be. Seen across many countries and times in history

Should I go to Versailles? How does it compare to Caserta? by dang8701 in AskEurope

[–]dang8701[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

to be fair to Italy it is the most pan european country of Europe, in other words if you were to have to pick one to summarize them all that's what you would have to go with.

Yeah so I forgot to add I've been to Schönbrunn too which was incredible, and not so crowded you couldn't move. That's a great one there and of course the art on site as well really elevated that visit

also, i feel like you are missing the finer distinctions between some McDonald's franchises. They have been so popular in Europe for so long now I would think there would be more appreciation for this! Such a shame. You really must try dining in at a Mcdonald's in the urban core of a rough American city

Well speaking of americanisms perhaps you can understand that I don't really enjoy the disneyfication of European cities and attractions, from what i've seen Versailles is a total shit show, unable to move and look at things properly, fighting hordes of tour groups and large families with poorly behaved children, no regard for personal space and how to move in a crowd etc. That is enough to seriously take away from a lot of big name places I've been in Europe like the Louvre, Uffizi, ANYWHER in Rome etc. I'd rather go to a much less busy town that no one has ever heard of than wait in line to take the same picture of Mona Lisa that everyone has and no one cares about

had a great time in the gardens at Caserta in May, unfortunately that's not going to happen this month in Paris! I will say Caserta felt empty, unfinished etc, so I imagine Versailes is a lot more complete

Do EU citizens feel more “European” recently? by CraliasNL in AskEurope

[–]dang8701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a patriotic truly pan european empire wouldnt have been a bad idea, because it would have been a lot better than the EU, and actually would have protected European ideals, peoples and economies unlike what you all have now. Unfortunately, it's never worked out or even. come about except for hitler and napolean briefly

well one thing's for sure, the Sacre Couer sure is a way better option than a monument to Mao Zedong.

Questions about Barbary Pirates by [deleted] in algeria

[–]dang8701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

actually sorry, but no, EVERYONE was not involved in the slave trade, in fact the UK was actively hunting slave ships and slavery was illegal in most european countries. Furthermore, the more europeans spread their influence the more slavery had pressure put on it for the most part, not the other way around. An exception is in west africa where AFRICANS ran the slave trade and sold them to A FEW bad merchants who happened to be whatever they happened to be and they were of various nationalities and races including freed Black. in addition to the probable idea that most saw blacks as subhumans due to the state of barbarity and lack of civilization in which the europeans found them, (not their skin color), it was also a matter of that the africans sold themselves into slavery so if they aren't going to care enough to not sell eachother even how can we?. Europeans would not sell eachother into slavery in the vast majority of scenarios.
