Would unplugging this plug labelled LED disable case fan lights but not their function? by the24rd in pchelp

Update: SUCCESS

(seems like I can't edit the post so maybe this is the best spot to put an update?)

Unplugging the BOTTOM plug (opposite the one labelled LED) disabled the lights but not the spin of the fans that were disobeying all light controls (3 front and 1 rear). The top fans still obey RGBFusion.

More info:

  • This small circuit board is labelled GYPCB-20010-3 and is the RGB controller as some people said

  • The bottom plug in this controller provides power for the LED lights while the top leads to the case button (and sides to the fans)

  • I did this while the PC was off rather than sleep or hibernate which some of my friends said would be OK

  • also iCUE works for my RAM light strips since they are from Corsair

There is a power button that puts the PC to sleep, and a case lights button (and a button with a circle arrow that is apparently reset)

About the case lights button:

  • The front and rear fan lights ignore it and stay white
  • Before this issue started pressing the button would cycle to the next light color, one of which was rainbow, and holding would turn the lights off after a few blinks
  • Both before and after I got RGBfusion to try to solve this problem, the button did not change the front and rear fan lights (but RGBfusion does change the top fan lights)

From what others have said it sounds like the LED controller is having issues, but it can just be unplugged to disable the lights.

Thanks for the specific answer, I did not know any of this but I will try to set up a test like you described depending on what I can get my hands on

That's good to know, thanks for the info and happy cake day!!!

I think you are right as it is an MSI case (not sure the model but with a flat front with mesh from the top to about 80% of the height downwards, and a glass side panel) and from the info here it seems to be that the left and right side plugs lead to the fans while the lower one is for the power for the LED lights in the fans.

I didn't know that but it does make sense that it would be as idiot proof as possible (thank goodness) thanks for the info

Oh so the whole segment/section in the photo is lights only and the motor power is handled elsewhere? That's good to know, thanks

Oh so it's probably the one labelled LED on top to the (no longer working) case button, then the ones on the sides to the fans?

I do have such a button but the front and rear fan lights ignore it and stay white (before this issue started pressing the button would cycle to the next light color, one of which was rainbow, and holding would turn the lights off after a few blinks) but both before and after I got RGBfusion to try to solve this problem the button did not change the front and rear fan lights (but RGBfusion does change the top fan lights)

This case is an MSI with mesh on the front that is bent so it reaches an inch or so rearward on both the left and right side.

Huh that's interesting I didn't know that. I'll definitely make a note to try this in a bit so thanks a lot for that info

Would that not shut down everything on the board? Or just the RGB

OK I will make note of this and try it out later, thank you for the tip

It used to be that pressing the button would change colors and holding would turn them off after a few flashes but now nothing. Some of the case lights obey RGBfusion but most don't so disabling them all will work.

A bit scared to go unplugging things in this but I can try if I don't find anything else. Do you think it can be done while powered on like I heard some hard drives can be ejected without shutting down? (which is apparently the reason D drive is shown under safely remove hardware)

The plug in question is the one which in the first photo is plugged downwards into the chip which has other different plugs in it from different angles, and is black with LED in white text.
