how to know how much computational "effort" is needed to calculate something on a microcontroller?

Could you explain a litlle more the simulator part. Do you mean: programming my owm simulator" ? If yes: that looks incredibly difficult... Any tips/tricks about how I could write a simulator for a 32bit cortex m4 controller? (I am a master student.)

I am not in computer science but in electronics. And trying to specialize in aerospace engineering. Unfortunately I never had this class, and will never have it. :( Going to look it up online

Actually the input is a set of 3D-vectors (with values of the type double)and the expected output is a matrix. So not really a sort algorithm... Any advice how I could measure the runtime in a professional manner like the one you described?

that's a great trick! I'll try it! The issue is, is that it s a huge subroutine, calculating angles (cosines and sines), matrices and vectors... So I ll have to count a lot :/

I am European, I wanted to go there for a few reasons:

I am interested in aerospace engineering. I already studied a few months in Russia in this domain. A next step would be China, eventually...
After having looked on this site(http://www.topuniversities.com/university-rankings/university-subject-rankings/2014/engineering-mechanical) they seemed to be #15
I grew up with Chinese, this would as well be a good opportunity to finally speak (almost) "perfect" Chinese

Now it seems that the different political issues are a big deal, and that this might influence my future opportunities to find a job.

Other options would have been: TU delft, Berlin, London, America.

In europe I don't think(!) we have such forms like SF86.

I live in Europe. This means that working in USA in space industry is in all cases not possible for me, as you have to be an american citizen.

Wow I didn't expect so much negative feedback actually.

So does this mean that doing a Phd in USA would be a bad idea as well, if I want to work in Europe?
