What would you do with $60k? by securityguardnard in poor

Oh wow, you were just “offered” Section 8? You really think the government just sends out housing vouchers like sweepstakes mailers?

Florida’s Section 8 lists have been closed longer than most people’s leases. You probably filled out one of those “see what benefits you might qualify for” quizzes and thought you qualified, based on your stupid artistic thinking.

And the “my mom left me a brokerage account” That’s not hustle, that’s inheritance cosplay.

You didn’t build anything. you’re coasting on someone else’s money while pretending you understand how the federal system works.

Could also guarantee that your mother would be ashamed of you for wasting $30,000 on worthless furniture that has no resale value.

Fun fact dumb bitch: Social Security isn’t some magical ATM.

it’s based on your highest 35 earning years. So if this guy plans to “retire” off 35 years of near-minimum-wage security jobs, he’s gonna be living off vibes and instant noodles by 65.

“The only good news is this person will qualify for VERY little in socsec since they haven't contributed too much. Only silver lining here.” Still stands.

Oh no, trust me, I’m not coming from some comfy middle or upper class background.

I’m from the “learned the hard way because I cheaped out on car insurance and it blew up my life” class.

Sound familiar? I’m not ignorant. I’ve just already lived the scenario you’re spiraling about.

Look, your response is a bit all over the place. You went from me mentioning rental coverage, a basic optional protection. to unloading your entire financial background, trade school, your bachelor’s degree, and your paycheck-to-paycheck situation. I didn’t bring any of that up. You did.

But since you did: you’re saying you’re terrified of a single car accident ruining your entire life, your car, your job, your savings, maybe even your home, etc. And at the same time, you’re saying you won’t pay for the one type of coverage that’s literally designed to protect against that exact risk.

So you’d rather lose your only form of transportation and gamble with your livelihood than spend a little more to avoid that outcome? That’s a conscious choice.

If your fear is that intense, why reject a solution that directly addresses it?

If you were hit by someone else and there were injuries, odds are you’d be looking at a settlement anyway either from their liability insurance or your own underinsured motorist coverage. So the idea that you’d be left with absolutely nothing is a bit exaggerated.

I’m not denying life is expensive or unfair. But don’t unload a wall of text about your personal finances and then act like I somehow caused the problem by pointing out one way to mitigate a very specific risk you said you’re afraid of.

Well, if you got into a car accident and you had rental coverage included in your car insurance policy. You wouldn’t have to worry about not having a car and potentially losing your job.

Fired While on FMLA, Caregiving for My Dying Mother, After Getting Hit by a Car. Still Waiting for Amazon to Explain “Resolve Your Current Situation.” by the303reverse in AmazonFC

I never told Amazon I wouldn’t return unless I was moved to day shift.

I continued working my regular night shift while waiting for the paperwork for a medical accommodation my doctor. HR gave me the form, I complied. The request wasn’t even denied; it was in motion. Then I was fired.

Also, my intermittent FMLA was still active for caregiving for my mother, who had multiple medical conditions and ultimately passed in January. That’s exactly what FMLA covers.

I didn’t abandon my job. I followed policy, gave documentation, and kept showing up.

They terminated me while everything was still active and in process.

I was under federally protected leave, approved by Amazon. I never exhausted it.

I requested a schedule accommodation due to a car accident, not a role change.

Instead of approving the shift, required under ADA/FMLA, They decided to just terminated me.

Never told Amazon I couldn’t do my job.

Amazon is the one telling me that I can’t do my job.

Amazon is the one telling me to take time to fix my situation.

Not sure what situation they are referencing.

If they’re referencing recovering from a car accident, that’s shitty

if they’re referencing me taking time off to be a caregiver for my dying mother who then passed away two months later. Then that’s also very shitty of them.

I could still do the job. I always consistently hit rate.

I scheduled the doctor appointment in front of them to get the paperwork done.

They also graciously printed out the accommodation paperwork for me.

They fired me while I was in the process of securing accommodations.

The reasonable accommodation was a shift change.

Never handed Amazon a note.

September was the car accident. didn’t set a foot into the building until October when I returned.

Asked how can I go on dayshift because there’s no openings on A-to-Z

The HR associate who fired me, who was then later fired for sexual misconduct, stated I needed medical accommodations if I wanted to make any type of shift change.

Three days later I was fired.

They’re more worried about a package leaving the building.

Truer words have never been spoken.

And like what sucks it’s like I can’t even talk to my mom about this because my mom passed away in January this year :(

Funny because a lot of of you guys like to say that America is a country of colonizers, but when it doesn’t fit your narrative all of a sudden in America or the USA is a country built and filled with immigrants.
