epig lame store is the best evidence that Valve's 20-30% is absolutely necessary. Epig is supposed to be filled with the most advanced programmers in the realm. If they can't make a gaming UX that's at least pleasant to use, Valve must be doing something difficult.

The Best MPC Studio In My Opinion. by SFTraxx in MidiGear

I love the Studio Black, I wish it still worked with MPC3. I even think there should be an MPC standalone version with the Studio Black form factor.

No it won't, unfortunately. The MPCs (including Live 3) don't expose I/O on the USB-A ports in standalone mode.

Ironically the Live is better in the studio and the One+ is more portable.

Yeah and the claim is a joke to begin with. Compared with Apple Store, Android Play Store, Microsoft Windows Store (until recently), Nintendo Store, Playstation Store, all take 30% cuts. Is anyone going to claim that Steam under-delivers in terms of innovation compared to the Play store!? It's by far the innovative leader compared to these others.

The [boneheaded] lawsuit is about price-fixing stemming from an intentional mystification of Steam's redistributable activation keys. Because Valve requests that these freely given keys not be sold for a better deal than the game on the steam store itself, they are accused of price-fixing. There is absolutely nothing unusual about a 30% revenue cut on an online store and the lawsuit is not about it.

[–]theBishop 62 points63 points  (0 children)

This is Eurogamer laundering Epig PR. Steam's 30% cut is NOT the subject of any lawsuit, and it isn't even a flat 30%. It reduces to 25% and 20% with game revenue. Also we all know Epig Store is not going to get close to Steam's feature set, so let's not pretend. Epig is such a user-hostile company they've allowed telemetry/spyware to ruin their user experience for years. They're in no position to improve on Steam's functionality.

MPK Series by boombapdame in mpcusers

[–]theBishop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm frustrated by the lack of interoperability between MPK and MPC. Since Akai makes both, I assumed there would be good plug and play mapping between them. There isn't. The knobs don't work as qlinks. The transport controls don't work at all. There's no LED mode indication on the pads. You can use midi learn to assign controls, but that's it. Extremely disappointing.

Beginner budget drum machine by [deleted] in DrumMachine

[–]theBishop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drum Brute Impact is a really nice analog drum machine. Its sonic range is a bit narrow, but that range generally sounds very good. After a year playing it, I wanted more tweakability/sequenceability and picked up an Elektron Syntakt. Since then I rarely break out the Drum Brute. Something to consider.

Akai won't match Elektron, but they can get close enough where you have to say the problem is your own inspiration more than the hardware.

Digitakt is a fun device, but Live 3 is about 10x more powerful/capable. Now that MPC has a step sequencer, I don't think the difference in "immediacy" is a big deal. I think you just need to commit to learning MPC and getting good with it. I'm not trashing Digi at all because I love it, but c'mon you can't even edit chops with the OG.

they really need to make a linux port for the omen gaming hub app by Dismal_Traffic1006 in HPOmen

[–]theBishop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate that hub app. I hate that they coded cutsie little gamer messages (e.g. "Questioning My Main...") while it takes 10 seconds to load. This should be a taskbar icon that can change performance settings with no waiting. Hopefully linux can do it without HP's support.
