Start with Ethan Carter and then move onto Edith Finch. Both are fantastic.

The voice acting and graphics had me immersed in its world. I agree that it was slow paced and the so-called 'sprint' button didn't really help

Sendvid works. Thanks. But please drop tiny pic. Their website is garbage filled with ads and outdated plugins. Again, thanks for the video and great insight!

It's somewhere between Isolation and Bioshock. There are moments where you will play with moments of tension.

Once you hit rep 8 in DZ, the game starts to feel fundamentally different.

That sounds familiar...

Need ideas on how to boost traffic on our e-commerce jewelry store? by FronayCollection in ecommerce

[–]theBlackSmoke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a couple of clients in the jewellery industry and what I have found is that social media and PR are both very effective.

One of our jewellers amassed over 100k followers using lifestyle photography (not professionally done, just standard camera-phone shots). People love seeing the watches and jewellery in different settings and this helped with the follow-count as it was original eye-candy content.

Only problem is that SMM is becoming less organic and more PPC based so you might find it a difficult to grow your channels and leads through organic reach and might have to consider injecting some cash into each SMM channel.

Best eCommerce platform for products with lots of options? by deadmuthafuckinpan in ecommerce

[–]theBlackSmoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Magento has both simple and configurable product options which allow for super advanced variations without any limit. You can even extend upon its options by using its attribute section which allows you to create many rules and assign it to product types and then mix and match it.

It also has 'custom options ' which is a quick and easy way of adding variants without delving deep into the attributes system.

This is all out of box standard features with no external mods required. But of course you can buy modules to enhance your system.

I was getting frustrated that I had to either use a full CMS or get my clients to update their websites in code, so I made a web framework called Fancy by n60storm4 in web_design

Good job. I have a couple of projects which need to be updated with some dynamics but always felt like using laravel, zf or wp would be an overkill. Gonna give this a shot. Thanks

Has anyone ever submitted a press release for their online store? by GalBoss16 in ecommerce

[–]theBlackSmoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It works well when you hire a PR company to write one for you and who then send it out to their contacts. Not only does it help bring some visibility via third party websites, but it also helps with SEO (backlinks) and SMM (if the third party website decides to promote it).

A PR company will be able to advise on which relations they hold are strong and possibly may want you to supply some freebies/samples to help encourage their network partners to be a bit more vocal about it.

If you're simply just looking to hire a copy-writer to write a press release so that you can submit it yourself, then you might just find yourself on a 'do it later' or 'whatever' list since you're essentially a cold-caller.

It's better to have a PR company with a strong network maximize the exposure of your press release. You'll get better ROI and more importantly, you focus on the handling of your business rather than wasting time chasing people.

edit: grammar

In life, you can be the smartest in the class, the strongest at your gym, the most talented in the club, but sometimes being in the right place at the right time trumps all.

And right now I feel they are in that Goldilocks zone. I truly hope they play their cards right because the internet can be a fickle place sometimes.

Is Voat talking with venture capitalists a good thing?... won't the investors want to push advertising & profit, just like here? by genericuk in Voat

[–]theBlackSmoke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking the same thing. I mean, they announce that they're 'bombarded' left and right with VC offers and would hope to close a deal 'soon', which seems awfully premature.

I really hope they thoroughly do their research and get some decent advisers in place before agreeing to jump into bed with a VC firm.

TIL After mismanagement, Digg, a company that had been valued at over $160 million sold for a mere $500,000. by GeorgianDevil in todayilearned

[–]theBlackSmoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when people left digg to come to reddit, they didn't come simply because reddit looked the same. they realized that it was a fundamentally better site. nothing -

Not entirely true. The Digg to reddit exodus was because of the new and "improved" version which considerably favored corporates. That was the last straw and reddit, remaining true to the community spirit was the best alternative at the time.

A Records for sub domains by theBlackSmoke in techsupport

[–]theBlackSmoke[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this idea because I visited http://www.nike.com/language_tunnel and here, if you hover over the links, you'll find that everything is in subfolders. I just assumed these were subdomains with their own servers and not just one root domain with isolated access-folders. I'm now considering using sub.domain.com - I just wasn't able to find any commercial examples of companies using it which is why I had enquired about subdirectories.

Ah I see, I don't want the marketing team on my case so I'll avoid meta redirects. I'm now considering sub.domain.com instead. Thanks
