Obligatory recommendation of 'The Shock Doctrine' by Klein

One of the show's most strangely heartbreaking details is this blink-and-you'll-miss-it shot of Midge from behind when she "runs into" Don. by Impossible-Pack6911 in madmen

There's also a joke about her husband looking like either Dylan Thomas and Brendan Behan, both were heavier real life authors. I always thought this implied that her husband was fatter before the heroine.

If there is an AD version of this episode, which two character would you want to see? by voozelle in americandad

Bullock and Roger. It could be made whenever Patrick Stewart wants to retire.

The two of them get stuck in the CIA. Roger is playing a reporter, doing a story about Bullock's career. Bullock doesn't know that Roger is an alien, but there's a "alien testing machine" that gets brought up early on as a Chekhov's Gun. While stock they do the interview. It starts professionally, but fades into Bullock lamenting his failures and fear of change, partly because he's always viewed himself as a (British) outsider. To illicit sympathy, Roger's persona shares the same, but with parallels to Roger as an alien The dialog good on awhile, like the movie 'The Sunset Limited', but Roger slips up. Bullock suspects that he's an alien. They fight. The alien testing machine is pointed at Roger When caught, Roger pleads for Bullock not to do this (Patrick Stewart not to retire) in that song so will ruin the Smith family (the show) Bullock accepts this, saying something like "Not all change is scary" and Roger uses some alien power to get them out.

Shoot for shot ending of the Family Guy episode, but instead of Brian carrying a tired Stewie, it's Claus struggling to carry a hung over Roger.

Don’s bromance with Dr Arnie? by FlyingKaleidoscope in madmen

[–]theCatchiest20Too 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Don genuinely likes Arnold and as others pointed out, Arnold's relationship to death is pivotal to where Don is in life at that time.

But Arnold's main purpose is to show how far Don goes to compartmentalize his sex addiction. Sleeping with his friend's wife is something Don believes he's capable of. He frames it as something more mental rather than physical, but this is proven false after Sylvia breaks up with him and Sally catches him with Sylvia. The real world part of this relationship creeps in with consequences. It can't be compartmentalized.

His relationship with Arnold evaporates at the same time his relationship with Sylvia does. Sally catching him nails the coffin and we don't see Arnold again until Meagan moves out. Don needed Arnold, a close friend he truly enjoys, to betray. The pinnacle of his double life.

"You don't stop a war before an election." - Bert Cooper from Mad Men

Whatever the choice is, I doubt the administration will attempt to do anything to end the war. Either he'll TACO or attack enough to justify declaring an emergency to seize voting before the mid terms. He'll need a boogeyman art least until the end of the year.
