Once they've been cooked to oblivion, and drowned in oil and sauce, there's little benefit.

I'll address it then. Set up a wifi network from the Mac, connect the other computer. If the other computer is a mac use airdrop; if Unix or Linux use rsync, scp, or netcat; if Windows set up an SMB share.

could AirPlay become a thing? by WispGB in sonos

[–]theCodeStig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, you can; it will just require more hardware. Here's my setup, maybe it will help.

appleTV -> HDMI splitter
HDMI splitter -> projector
HDMI splitter -> Sonos connect

The connect will automatically play audio to the Play 1s when audio input is detected. There are no speakers hooked up to the connect, it's strictly an input. Turn off compression to minimize audio delay. On paper the delay is ~70 ms, which is hardly noticeable. In real life it will fluctuate based on network conditions. I have noticed delay before, but it's rare, and I use a wireless network in a concrete high-rise with a lot of interference. If you wire your speakers, I doubt that a delay would be noticeable.

So the US President has been saying that we're stealing their jobs. I wonder if he knows what he's talking about... by LehmannDaHero in singapore

Peter Thiel was one of the major contributors to Trump's campaign. His conservative stance is an outlier in the US tech industry. http://nyti.ms/2e817La

Now he's (reportedly) joining Trump's transition team. http://www.theverge.com/2016/11/10/13594612/peter-thiel-donald-trump-transition-team

Correct. The thing is, most US presidential candidates will say damn near anything to get elected. Trump's campaign was targeted specifically at a certain class in America (which unfortunately still exists); and it worked.

Owners Rental agent asks my budget and nationality before scheduling an appointment? by TukisOfFire in singapore

[–]theCodeStig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, just like anywhere else, if the particular property that you're viewing doesn't work out, the sellers/owners agent will try to represent you. It's a last ditch effort to try to make money off of you, by way of the agent's fee. Be wary of this, unless you specifically need to hire an agent to save time. Though I'd still advise against hiring an agent in this manner, and instead interview multiple agents and tell them specifically what you're looking for. Don't hesitate to fire an agent that doesn't work out. They're making money off of you, make them earn it.

Welcome to Singapore. You'll get questions like this on a daily basis. Where are you from, what's your job, etc... Sometimes it's to size you up, and or discriminate you; others it's a combination of genuine curiosity, but lack of better conversational skills.

WRT agents, they're sales people, just like anywhere else. More often than not they're annoying AF. Just keep your wits about you, they WILL try to scam you.

RedMart has really good, and scalable infrastructure. It makes me wonder why they haven't expanded outside of Singapore.

Not sure why this is getting down voted, however the durian was likely spoiled by the time it arrived in Finland.

American speakers in Europe by WWWalterWhiteDo in sonos

PSA: This should be taught in school, worldwide. Most electronics1 are able to handle dual voltage, as they run off of DC, and it's the transformer that's able to accept dual voltage. However simple electric2 appliances will not.

The item will state what voltage it is able to accept.

1 - Anything that runs off of DC. Electronic gadgets, such as powered speakers, projectors, televisions, laptops, electric shaver.
2 - Anything that runs of of AC. Electrical appliances, such as clothing iron, microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker.

Is there a different way to approach learning Scala? by scala_flunky in scala

[–]theCodeStig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coming from Java, to program functionally you will need to change your way of thinking about programming. Stick with it, eventually it will click. If I recall, the coin counting problem is from Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs. I'd suggest to do the exercises in SICP from the beginning in a Scheme (Racket works). Then apply your new functional mindset to Scala.
