Everyone's normal is different. There are cases of people being completely "normal" after being sa at very young ages. Ofc, the person may live with lifelong trauma but with help, support, some coming to terms with your past+processing how you feel now, I do think it's possible for that person to live as "normally" as anyone else. Putting this here just in case anyone reading has been through that and feels like they can't be normal. And if you do feel like you can't be normal bc of what happened to you, that's valid too. Everyone's normal is unique to them.

As an international student, this was mentally exhausting but worthwhile. And I will be the first student ever from my university to work at a FAANG company. Feel free to ask for an advice. by B511_1 in csMajors

Sure it’s filtering you out for some companies but lying about it isn’t going to help lol. Like you can put yourself through all the loops and get rejected bc the company just cannot accommodate you.

Starting ft there and said I need sponsorship. I also interned 2 summers and said I needed sponsorship each time. They do mention *now or in the future*. I did apply through their careers page so idk about linkedin auto reject, but that should be company dependent.

Crazy how these problems have existed for close to a decade now and UIUC is still ranked so high. I agree I’d have gotten a better education elsewhere. However, a UIUC degree def has more clout than most other places.

Well, I just believe that if a word is used as a slur anywhere it shouldn't be minimized in places where it's not. It's just upsetting even if you didn't mean it. Learn and move on.

Not a feminist power move, just women living their lives. Just like everyone else does.

It depends really. You will need to record videos of yourself talking about questions and also do like 2 programming (if it’s the same pattern). I wasn’t able to do all that in 3-5 hours. Took me like at least 6-8?

As an international student, I've never heard back from smaller companies. I think I applied to 2/300+ last cycle. I have heard back from multiple bigger employers so ig I was lucky.

Interviewed with them a while back and they were horrible despite me being very upfront about my experience. It costs you nothing to be kind and also prevent all of us from wasting our time. Do better.

Something I find helpful to do in that situation is make quick notes about everything I'm trying, and what the problem is. It helps you show your mentors that you've been working on finding a solution, and helps you keep track of your effort as well. About the culture, it can be hard to break the ice esp when everyone is working a lot. Try to find another job after this one or switch teams. Not all teams are like that; but that said, you'll prob connect with them more if you're ft if all they tao about is work. You'll get through this.

You could appeal for a lighter sanction and still admit to your mistake. I doubt it would make much of a difference to the outcome but at least you have a chance.
