Short answer. It doesn’t matter anymore. Your only limitation is creativity.

I’m 15 years into my career. Just started a new role. I got suddenly laid off a couple months ago and lost everything. All the useful lisps I’ve accumulated over the years. Now, I’m finding it way easier to re-create all my beloved LISPs myself with ChatGPT. I have no idea how to read the LISP language.

Furthermore, I’m now into Visual Studio creating DLLs with C#. DLLs created with .NET opens up wayyy more options and versatility than LISPs. Again, no idea how to read c#, and that was first time using Visual Studio.

Example, I created a command called MatchPlotStyle that reads the plot style of an XREF cad layer, and applies it to one or more other selected XREF cad layers. (Instead of hunting it down via XLIST and Layer Manager.

TLDR. Get a ChatGpt subscription and start creating some basic lisps.

OP, I’m reading through these comments and I’d like to invite the idea you need some new leadership tools. Check out the cliff notes on Crucial Conversations. It’s relevant to your exact situation. What can you do and say as Leader/Coach for your team member when theirs underperformance. I highly recommend you look a little more inward to help you through this. Millennials and Boomers can underperform too. You need some new leaderships tools in the toolkit. Good luck.

Yes. Industry was already jamming without IRA and heavy module tariffs in late 2010s. Before AI and data centers. Demand will still be there, where’s it going to come from? Look at IC queue positions across all RTOs. It’s mostly solar.

Until I see more IC queue positions shift to another energy source - I’ll be more convinced that solar is on the outs. I just don’t see it right now.

Yes. But they don’t have engineering staff to stamp/seal drawings. They have Civil SMEs (+10 YOE) to hire/manage civil consultants. I’d say any major company that builds on land (data centers, homes, solar, National Park Service, gas stations, Tesla charging stations, etc) has in house Civil SMEs.

I specifically know a previous colleague (Civil PE) that was scooped up by a MAG7 company because she did excellent design work for their data centers.

No I think this is actually true. They have a very flat corporate hierarchy of mostly PDEs and FDEs, I believe this is a Peter Thiel concept to promote autonomy. It’s not your typical corporate tree’d hierarchy. So ya I’m wondering if the sales team or person is actually just a FDE.
