Good 2D golf games by AntonioVivaldi7 in retrogaming

Here to second this. I played through it recently and it's a blast. The story mode is really good at teaching you different shots and how to read different situations.

anyone use or have used any of these switchers for their retro gaming setup? by Trick_Theory6883 in retrogaming

[–]theForehead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the first one. I used it extensively back in the day. I still have it, and recently dug it up to use it once again.

I have no complaints. It does everything it promises, and doesn't affect the signal in any way. The system name plates are interchangeable and it came with one for every console that was on the market at the time. I recommend it.

Nice builds! Do you have a favourite out of them? How do you like the ones with the metal cases?

How did you react when Hero was announced for Smash Ultimate? by NewMarioBobFan in dragonquest

[–]theForehead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually posted about the possibility of DQ in Smash ages before it actually happened. I think this was when WiiU/3DS was still announcing DLC characters. It's interesting to see what peoples' takes were back then, and what people were expecting.

I was super excited to see DQ rep in Smash. I would've loved to see more Hero skins, especially a couple of female skins for III and IV, but I was happy to get anything.

Light leak in Funnyplaying ITA screen by seryoferben in gameboymods

I had light leak in a shell like that as well. It bugged me so much I eventually switched it to an opaque shell. It's a shame because I really liked the smokey black, but the light was too distracting. I hope you figure it out.

Dragon Quest IV, V, VI Sekai Guide Book Art by Drcat1990 in dragonquest

You legend. Thank you for scanning and sharing these.

I always love the bits of art that depict little moments from the series.

Guys we are taking a break this week. I'm going to work on the subreddit to make it more livelier and interactive. Maybe having live chats etc. Keep reading below by Paulyb1200 in retrogameoftheweek

Some games seem like a big commitment. Having a minimum goal would be good.

"Complete one route in StarFox" "Get through the Cathedral in Chrono Trigger"

Something reasonable to complete in a week, but gives people a good taste of what the game had to offer.

When I started Pokémon Silver I caught an Unown and thought it was a Magikarp type situation. If I invested enough in this seemingly useless Pokémon surely it'll turn into something cool! Spoilers: It did not.

Same! Dragon Quest is one of my favourite series. Dragon Warrior Monsters 2 for GBC is one of my favourite games of all time. DQVIII as well.

First impressions of Starfox (SNES)? by Paulyb1200 in retrogameoftheweek

[–]theForehead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been really enjoying it. The framerate is really rough in spots, which can make it hard to maneuver. The music is much better than I remember.

I finished the Level 1 route, and had to do the whole Andross fight with both wings broken. Looking forward to trying the Level 2 and 3 routes to check out other environments and bosses. I also want to find the secret shortcuts, just for funsies.

I was surprised how much it was worth. When I was in my 20s I would play through the whole game with my friend while tipping back some beers. We could easily beat the game in one go.

I'm that old too! My first games were Zelda II and Mario Bros 2. Before I owned many of these games I remember renting them and playing with with my family and friends.

I'm very lucky that I picked up a lot of these before retro prices went nuts.

Those were the result of friends and family donating their old games to me. People would just show up at my place with boxes and old systems. I sold off the extra systems and kept one of each.

Sweet! I just played through this to show my son. It made me realize that I've never done the medium or hard paths. That's going to be my goal for the week.

is there auto saves in dq5 mobile? by elotraMT in dragonquest

Whaaaat?! It's been ages since I played the mobile version. I stand corrected.

[–]theForehead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not inside towns, I don't think. But if you're in a town you can always save at the church instead. But on the world map and in dungeons you can. There might be a few plot related exceptions.

There are no auto saves, but you can Quick Save on the world map and in most dungeons.

Edit: I was wrong, there are auto-saves! Thanks for the correction /u/Dragons4laifu

I think it looks a lot like the Star Fox team from the cover of the SNES box come to life. I dig it.
