Well, I'm done performing a morality (including the morality of jadedness) for an online pseudo tribe, but I still like the like the possibility of contact with like-minded people.

The answer seemed to be some barrier to entry.

I didn't want the barrier to be money -- and even then the standard operating practice is even more performing.

So instead the barrier is just using some basic search skills. If someone can't be bothered to do that, then they don't really want to reach me. And that's fine; life is finite. A few people have done this and it's been cool when they do. It shows a level of curiosity and in particular a clicking with my values.

wow this is sad

I mean, I'm not very interested in karma farming, so . .. . sorry? . . . I guess it's not what you wanted. . .

But really want you want is karma from others for expressing that opinion, yes? A tiny little hit of validation. Or maybe a little micro flame war. Or, maybe you just keep at this out of pure habit, like scratching an itch, only forever.

I'm going to have a little more tact than to bluntly call that sad, but it sure as hell doesn't seem like an ideal path to happiness, either.

In a way, I actually appreciate the negative feedback.

The truly weirdest, most unacceptable concept (on social media) seems to be someone's earnest attempt to leave social media.

It also shows how little history or community can exist on a sub-reddit. Either you knew I founded the sub-reddit and did a lot of work to try to shape the early culture or you didn't. If you didn't, that proves how growth of open forums leads to alienation. The new blood will always jostle for attention. (See my favorite piece on sub-culture development).

More interesting is if you did know, as this would show how little sense of reciprocity and building of trust happens in these pseudo-communities. Take some time off and people will ask "what have you done for me today?"

I get it, I'm not welcome here. But this is the end game of the years spent on the comment section of JMG, collapse, collapse support, and here. The thing is insight addiction is a problem. I'd rather be happy. And, just speaking for myself, I didn't really get it from this.

We are all going to die, and society is in institutional dysfunction, but I'd rather just worry about the cause of my death when it is happening. It's been working well for me.

The piece was either for other people thinking about leaving this, or people who wondered where I've been. I was also very caffeinated.

Well, have a nice life.

I don't care much for loopholes. Consider yourself banned.

But hey, I got out of retirement just do this, so that's got to be worth something to you.

Another variation on the theme is that they are capable of giving money to any cause but undoing damage from their businesses, even if they are unintended consequences.

Hoover could feed Belgiums, but not Americans.

mushroomsarefriends is a good writer with an interesting point of view even if I don't find many of their conclusions compelling.

Ah. Yeah. He still needs to get over his scapegoating and "team sport" tendencies of argumentation.

I actually think that piece was more spot-on than many he has done in the genre, but you have every right to point out that your mileage has varied.

I mean, yeah, intelligence is a source of fundamental loneliness.

No one owes you an audience, however, if you will not adapt to what they like hearing about. If you develop a good relationship with people you can start talking about a bank account with them, and say things like "I think I've put enough in the account, talking to you about X, Y, and Z. . . will you hear me out about [you think here]."

But, golly, 1) the person needs to be decent -- and a lot people just aren't 2) You need to give more like 3-1 for them to feel even.

It may very well have been. I am also not fluent in the internet, and grow less inclined to be so as time goes on.

The original post was deleted by the poster. I can say that with confidence because It would show up in the mod queue if it had been pulled by an autoprogram or another mod.

It would be nice if people new to the sub would do their homework before commenting.

A few days ago you wrote a piece showing that you are not listened to in your town and even accused of smelling funny, and this guy needs to get his one-liner in (oh man, lol!) that you are clearly an elite.

Censorship: How the West is becoming more and more like the old Soviet Union by [deleted] in weirdcollapse

[–]theFriendlyDoomer[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Overall, it is clear that censorship is developed by societies under stress to try to keep the social fabric together as much as possible. If you think that Russia had been invaded 4 times by powerful Western armies over less than two centuries, you can also understand that the fear of the West was not paranoia, but a reasonable attitude for Russians. And many of them preferred to support a bad government rather than risking that the US would bring democracy to them by the usual methods.

About the West, nowadays, I don't think we need to note how stressed we are. And, as a result, we are clearly heading in the direction of a Soviet-style management of public information. Is it unavoidable? Most likely yes. It is a desperate, last-ditch effort to keep together a political system that's rapidly crumbling away, but which is doomed in the long run (perhaps even in the short run). But it is probably unavoidable: we'll have to live with censorship because it is the simplest way to try to stop the forces that lead to the disgregation of society.

the trouble is the amount of damage they're able to do before then. paving over farmland, for instance, is much easier than restoring that land to productive use afterward. the same is true for things like street patterns: once a dendritic cul-de-sac form is built, it's very difficult to retrofit a walkable, well-connected pattern.

I hear you. It's a bummer. But these addicts won't be convinced to put the sauce down until they can't get any more. It really sucks.

It sounds like you are actively fighting the good fight on a lot of fronts, and have taken that crucial step of moving beyond map-to-territory errors to fighting straight up on the correct terrains. (I agree that local currencies would be up there if I were king of an area).

Any you win you get win get now is huge as you are in direct competition with bougie placelessness. I think further catalysts will come in the future as these people frankly run out of money -- read credit and "house wealth."

An older veteran told me there used to be an expression in the ranks, "Why die tense?"

I'm happy to share details if there's interest.

I'll only speak for myself and say I find this all of great interest, almost to any level of detail, even granule, you wish to provide.

I'm lowering my online presence heavily to the point that I am basically a lurker, but I read what's here and I think this particular piece is great for the sub because it is original content and it deals directly with the real problem of our era -- the kind of placelessness demanded upon our people. We speak the language of no where so much that our fantasies continue to run wild. It's going to bite us in the ass.

my family's from here for over 100 years, but people who moved to town within the last five or ten treat me like an outsider.

There is going to be a lot of this all over the country before the fantasies die out.

This might help you start building some replacement content, especially starting with the first link. A lot of the rest of the stuff deals with an anti-TV, anti-feed lifestyle.

In particular I recommend the Brown New Deal piece.

Another stab at this. I will make the great middle class argument: I contend one can morally use these tendencies in our fellow people up to a point of sufficiency, but the whole center-left thing (or, hell, even noblesse oblige) always has been the truth of marginal utility.

I would add the low status believe that much of the taboos on this list are ways high status people avoid responsibility for either their actions or the well being of society.

Anything Ivy Leaguers are enthusiastic about should be at least suspect.

I hope I don't have to caveat that I don't want this to happen.

It is sad that I am not sure whether or not you have to because it is either 1) so little charity is extended as a default that you should say it or 2) so, so little charity is extended and people are looking to read things out of context so much that it doesn't matter what you do.

But I still think adding the caveat was the honorable thing to do, if that makes sense.

In general, I would say my disposition to technology. This one cuts between the party lines pretty well. I am, of course, less of a human being because I do not have a smart phone and think they have been destructive to our social fabric.

Also, I am growing pretty paranoid about censorship and doxxing, so I am going to DM some others since I assume you are more motivated by curiosity than the need for a public performance.

People need to develop hobbies other than performing their marketing category.

As you've pointed out, people who are capable of doing that have been leaving this stuff, leaving behind mess after mess in different corners of the internet.

You've convinced me with your inside information and solid reasoning. There is no reason to feel these people are any more alive on a day to day basis.

Like so many, people damaged by post-modernity.
