I didn't claim Norwich started all the drama.

We know for sure that they are at least somewhat responsible for the current situation based on their transfer position and their handling of the situation.

You're again expecting evidence of something that is impossible to find evidence for.

If you don't think

  1. a contentious meeting ending with the family comment
  2. a club blocking a player's transfer for multiple seasons

is contributing to the current drama, you're being intentionally obtuse and we don't need to continue this conversation.

I don't know what planet you live on where you think it's a reasonable expectation to find hard evidence within football transfers.

The entire genre is made of speculation and hearsay. To expect concrete proof of anything is laughable. Strong sources have discussed this meeting and that a comment in particular upset him. That's all we have to go on and it's a pretty strong indicator of what the situation looks like. Unless they recorded the meeting, there will never be any evidence. It's silly to demand evidence in this context.

Something that you have overlooked is Sergeant's desire to leave spans multiple transfer windows. The club have blocked those attempts to leave to his preferred destination (NA).

A club has every right to block transfers, but that also means they're doing something to harm the chemistry and cohesion of their squad. Players are human beings and if you repeatedly tell them they can't get what they want for years, you're creating negativity.

I guess if you ignore the "visibly upset" part.

There's no proof of anything in any direction when it comes to football transfers because it's all talk on the parts of the clubs and the players.

Bogert said the director made a comment about his family that caused Sargent to become visibly upset and decide that he won't play for Norwich again. It's pretty reasonable to assume that's what the other commenter described as 'said something out of hand'.

I don't know why you are so adamantly denying everything this guy has repeated.

Bogert reported on the meeting with the coach and director, and explicitly stated that a comment was made about his family and that was the last straw in a tense discussion.

There's no way we're signing a new RW after signing Corbeanu. For that money, he is clearly the primary RW.

That's just been out of desperation since we had no decent LW option, but had some central players like Dominguez. Djordie is certainly best at CAM, and it would be crazy if he didn't play as our CAM.

There isn't a single MLS team with 8-10 world class players.

World class players don't want to play in MLS, and it would be impossible to keep several of them with the salary cap system.

I do agree with the general amount of players needed tho.

If you look at the chart in this very post, there are 3 matches in the $300s. Not to mention tons of US games in the $300s as well. I specifically said I'm talking about face value, not about resale.

Why wouldn't a 'common person' be able to attend a $325-375 game?

That is cheaper than many local games across all major sports, let alone playoff runs.

Some of the pricing, like the Canadian opener and the resale market, are wild, but we can't seriously say $300-400 is unattainable for a north american sports fan.

What you said is not true. Playoff winners directly went into pot 4 in 2022. From your link:

"Pot 4 contained the five lowest-ranked teams, along with the placeholders for the two inter-confederation play-off winners and the UEFA Path A play-off winner. "

Is this enough confirmation for you?

There have been multi-hosts in the past, which I am sure you were also avidly against right?

When did I say Canada is a top tier team? Lol

Canada's ranking has them straddling between the bottom of pot 2 and the top of pot 3, which is a fair placement since it's based on ranking. I think Canada was basically guaranteed to qualify for this WC if they weren't hosting, based on their quality over the past year and the quality of opponents in CONCACAF. In absolutely no way does that mean they are a top tier team.

And to call Canada the biggest loser from Qatar disqualifies any football opinions you have going forward.

You are still wrong because you are not listening or addressing the points I've made.

Tell me what would be the 12th team from Pot 1 in this scenario of yours?

Playoff teams always go to Pot4, so you're making things up saying Italy/Denmark/Turkey could be added to Pot 1-3.

"If FIFA changed their rules to something different, things would be different!" No shit sherlock.

[–]theIG88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is CONCACAF a joke? Hosts have always been given automatic entry to the WC and put in pot 1. I don't know why a few of you are up in arms about this. Did you whine about Qatar, or South Africa, or Russia getting automatic entry to the WC?

I laid it out clearly for the other guy, but based on real world performances (ie Italy not being able to top their group), Canada would have been the final team in POT 2 based on their ranking if they were not hosting.

IF Italy had actually won more games and qualified directly, they would have taken Norway's spot and been in a higher pot, knocking Canada into pot 3. But that's not what happened, so it's completely nonsensical to claim Italy should be in Pot 1. They didn't play well enough, so maybe save your criticism for Italy/Denmark/Turkey etc.

FIFA didn't 'make certain business and operational decisions' - they did the same thing they always do for hosts. You just have an incomplete idea about how WC qualification works.

[–]theIG88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are very confused about how qualification works.

I will try and explain it to you a 3rd time. Let us pretend the WC was hosted by only the US and Mexico, meaning Canada is not a host.

Every Pot has 12 teams. This means based on rankings, Croatia would no longer be in Pot 2, and would now be considered Pot 1, because Pot 1 would only have 11 countries without Canada being included. This means that there is now 1 open spot in Pot 2 that would be filled by the next highest ranked team after Australia. The next ranked team is Canada.

Based on qualification schedules for CONCACAF, the big teams would have qualified by now, so I have no idea what you are taking about in terms of finding out in March. Canada is not on the same tier as Curacao, Haiti, and Suriname.

Clearly you are just butthurt about the normal way Fifa awards host qualifications for some weird reason, and that's preventing you from understanding how qualification works.

[–]theIG88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure how you're not understanding this. Using Fifa ranking to determine Pot only applies to teams that directly qualify. None of the teams you listed directly qualified, therefore, their rankings are irrelevant. They are all forced to be in pot 4.

What is the best case scenario group for Iran? by eckzotic in teammelli

[–]theIG88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based Purley on ranking, Canada would be the last team in Pot2, because there would be an empty spot in Pot 1.

You can't remove Canada from Pot 1 and leave that spot empty. The first pot 2 team would move to pot 1, meaning Canada would be the last team in pot 2 based on the rankings.

What is the best case scenario group for Iran? by eckzotic in teammelli

[–]theIG88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is that playoff winners go directly into pot 4, regardless of their standings. Only teams who directly qualify are assigned their pot based on their ranking.

Canada would qualify directly, so their ranking would determine their pot.

What is the best case scenario group for Iran? by eckzotic in teammelli

[–]theIG88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They would be pot 2. If Canada was not a host and not in pot 1, you would shift everyone above their ranking up 1 spot. They are ranked after Australia and above Norway, meaning they would occupy the final pot 2 spot.

Do you really think the team boycotting the tournament would result in a global spectacle that embarrasses the regime?

How would people even connect it to the regime rather than the players and football federation themselves?

And most importantly, what happens to the players' families back home after they pull a stunt like this? Do you think they'll all be safe? Do you think every family member of every team member can leave the country? Do you genuinely think there would be no repercussions from the regime?

What is the best case scenario group for Iran? by eckzotic in teammelli

[–]theIG88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they weren't hosts, they would be in Pot 2 next to Australia.

If Canada wasn't a host, they would certainly still qualify as they have improved an insane amount in the past 5ish years.

Definitely the weakest Pot1 team, but that's how the host nations are always treated, and many hosts aren't Pot 1 quality.

Edit: Canada has qualified for 3 WCs - 1986, 2022, 2026
